I miss the ole' EMCE excitement!

OK, I know this sounds weird, but I really miss reading new posts everyday about the Retro Action Heroes, Star Trek and POTA EMCE figures. Remember how excited you guys were (and yeah, me too!) when the new figures came out? How your kids spotted them on the shelf in TRU, or you gave one to your kid for Christmas, or how Green Arrow's hat got lost behind the couch? I dunno...even though folks did their share of complaining about these figures, it just brought back that child-like enthusiasm in most of us, and I miss seeing that.

Do you guys feel the same way?

I suppose so, but it's just not the same. The aforementioned EMCE/Diamond lines were replicas, (or close to) of our old childhood faves. Not to mention they were out at virtually the same time, which made for great discussions, (the good and the bad). The BBP SMDM line is OK, but it doesn't seem to have generated the same magic, if that makes any sense.

I'm excitedly waiting on the Phantom of the Opera and Metaluna Mutant, and have my finger crossed for one or two more years.

Ya I keep looking at EMCE for new threads but I'm bummed cuz it's the same old posts.

I am super excited though, about the Steve Austin Astronaut, with a smaller head, and Barney Hiller, The Seven Million Dollar Man!!!

I agree with you Sharry, its just something about a new "Mego" back in our hands again. It was that reconnection with our past, like that toy turned into a time machine and we were all 9 years old again.

I know just what kinda excitement i think you mean, its the Emce star trek,Apes, and dc superheros figures, the same
ones you bought as a kid ,got for christmas or birthday, thats what it is for me the most,Superman for example may
not be the same, but its the same size & package type character ,the figures you actually had.the characters that you
never had are also full of excitement but in a adult way,not the child like way, when you look at a retro cornelius you
have that childhood memories feeling ,when you look at a retro steve austin its like i wish i had this 40 years ago feeling
& i am glad i have it now excitement.

I'll always remember the excitement we had when Paul told the world Mattel would crank up production on a modern day version of the Mego DC superheroes. I think we were all in Mego heaven at that point. And when Green Arrow first hit, it was an amazing figure. I can say to this day I still think the Mattel version trumps the original. A better design and a faithful interpretation of the original head mold made for a killer figure. So it was with much anticipation that the initial wave was greeted. The rest is history. Quality issues burdened further by hit and miss design choices made for a much maligned series that got lost in the interpretation of nostalgia. But through it all, I found some characters I savor to this day. The aforementioned Green Arrow, The Flash, Captain Cold, Lex Luthor, and Green Lantern are at the top of my list. It was a fun line without question. But it was through this line, I also learned to temper my expectations. It's impossible to satisfy the childhood fantasies of every collector out there. But I still get that excitement with old licenses too. BBP has been on a nice roll with the SMDM and BSG. We may not have had those characters as Mego's. But all we wish we did as kids. And now we do. So nostalgia can get fed in a number of different ways.

Yep- I was a "lurker" then, and was really excited when I started seeing all the Re-Megos on the shelves at the local comic shop. A little after that, I joined up here, and later saw that their was going to be Universal Monster Re-Megos out. I was hooked!

It feels like the fandom is going dormant again, after a brief nostalgia resurgence. But new toys continue to be produced. The big name toy companies may have moved on but this fandom lives, and as long as there is a market, there will be new toys.
