Glad to see Athena has rooted hair. I notice though that a lot of the Galactica prototypes shown last year are no longer being shown.

An early prototype. But the costume will be of good use. I still love BSG and I am still spending a decent amount rebuilding a cylon army.
I'll buy a few of her no matter what just for the outfits. Still, this figure isn't a faction as cool as the BSG prototypes that BBP is no longer mentioning.
If I have to build this stuff from scratch that is what I will do. But I still hold out hope that something will come of those far superior alien prototypes.

I mean that Lunch Box set came from outta nowhere. Maybe the rest of the BSG figures could actually happen in the end.

Can't say I'm impressed with this. The face looks very generic.
But if it's an early prototype, I'll reserve judgement for later.

It's tough to see Maren Jensen in there, through the helmet, isn't it?

You mean the old days when all toys were mass produced retail items aimed at kids, and there wasn't a niche specialty market for adult collectors?

I know she's not much to look at, but If I have to get a few wonky headed figures to get my aliens so be it.
I was this close to dropping $$$ on the BSG alien preorders via the Japanese websites,
but I held back. Tell me how much $$$ I need to contribute to keep it going...

OK... hold up. Are these actually being produced and sold overseas and not here ?

I would doubt it since the release date is in August and they sold out. Several Japanese toy stores were preordering those figures (and others) and had a 4th quarter blowout sale. However none of these listings were meant to be sold to Westerners and none were listed in English to begin with. I have personally pre paid for items THREE to FOUR YEARS in advance for Japanese stuff, so this sorta thing is not unusual. That being said a ton of stores were preordering BBP stuff. The only thing unusual was that if you search on NON ENGLISH sites, they preordered different items than in the USA. I still have hope they will get made, but I dunno how this all works behind the scenes.
                      Cheers,

The lack of any of their other protos is worrying, but maybe it was just a space issue? Still, not seeing all those other wonderful BSG characters does make me sad after what happened to the Who line. The only two retro figure lines I really collected were Who and BSG.

However, I shall not cry over the spilled milk before it's spilled, and hope for the best.

Very much less point, and more me doing my best Mr Magoo impression as I try and figure out how to get an action figure onto the toy shelves in today's complicated toyscape. Where the internet and crowd funding exists as a viable financing and distribution option. Not something we had in the good ol' days and is an amazing tool to help mitigate risk.

I actually think it's AMAZING that Bif Bang Pow's affiliation with Entertainment Earth allows for a pre-order strategy... we do risk disappointment when the Thing We Want doesn't get enough traction, but I honestly think it's a shot at getting a product that we otherwise wouldn't have had a snowball's chance of getting at retail otherwise. Let's not forget what a Labour of Love the ReMegos are in the first place relative to their return on investment, when compared to product like Journals, Bobbleheads, shot-glasses etc. I'm sure BBP would do just fine discontinuing the figures and just doing product adorned various licensed logos, icons or catch-phrases like "Bazinga".

I have the belief that although Adult Toy Collectors have existed a long long time, the Adult Toy Industry came into existence in the wake of the tremendous success of McFarlane Toys. Throughout the rest of the nineties and early millennium, we saw how many companies specializing in product for adult collectors spring up? And how many of them survive today?

I fully realize we all want our toys nownownow, and exactly to my personal specifications. We really do need to stop and be amazed at what we have been getting and if we don't get what we want, the internet is also full of amazing artisans who can fulfill that dream that mass production at certain price points might not be able to accomplish.

It really truly is an embarrassment of riches and we should appreciate this avalanche of product for as long as we have it. Because in ten years time, it could very well be us, like the 50-60 year old GI Joe fans, wondering why there is no 12" GI Joe product to celebrate the 50th anniversary of something we love so much. Or if you want to jump ahead twenty years, just check out what the Marx or Cowboy Collectors are doing these days when you run into them behind their tables at Toy Shows (mostly napping and staving off death from what I can discern).

I just realized referring to it as "The Adult Toy Industry" probably was a wrong choice of terminology... unless you are looking forward to an upcoming line of heat activating full body "massage pillows" adorned with seventies Canadian icons "Major Maple Leaf" and "Maid of the Mist".

Just got back from Toy Fair and was incredibly disappointed with BBP's Battlestar showing. Going into the show I was most excited to see the evolution of BBP's 8" retro BSG prototypes since SDCC. Over six months has passed, surely we'd see near final Athena (sans helmet) and Lucifer...updated Tigh in correct uniform, Baltar with normal sized head, Boomer and Imperious Leader all with solicit dates...perhaps a Sheba prototype to go with that SPECTACULAR Ovion!

I can't explain what a let down it was to see not only the same Lucifer and Athena protos we've been shown before, but even LESS figures than SDCC with no sight whatsoever of the protos we've been shown for the last year. It seemed pretty clear from this (as well as their 8" Twilight Zone and Venture Bros. showings) that BSG is going the way of Doctor Who. When I asked about the lack of BSG protos I got conflicting responses from the sales reps but was told in both cases Jason would be able to answer but was in a meeting.

I think the answer to the lack of new Mego product rests in the overstock they currently have of past releases. I don't believe I have ever seen a "sold out" or "temporarily out of stock" listing at EE on any of these figure lines. All of the Six Mill and BSG first runs remain in stock regardless of how many sales they've had since that initial release. How long has their license expired on Flash Gordon? Yet the Mego figures still sit. I don't doubt Jason's love and enthusiasm to make these, but there has to be some kind of demand to green light these releases. And from my vantage point I don't see much. That's unfortunate too, because I would love to see a continuation of the BSG and Six Mill lines outside of what is already previewed. It's been fantastic to see the line go as deep as it has. That's proof positive of Jason's love and commitment to the series.
