Mattel Q&A on the Retro Action "last wave"...

Might be of interest to some folks here. If it's not, that's fine too. Nobody else ever asks about Retro-Action, but I try to do my part now and again.

I decided to ask and see if there was anything that could get that last wave out, or if a move tie-in might help. There is some comparison to JLU and why they don't consider it the same thing.

    Sound about right?

Thanks for asking the question. Meanwhile, Matty will now pump out odd Back to the Future props. Go figure.

Will we ever know at least which characters were these prototypes?

I'm still not sure how a company can be awarded a license with such bankable, iconic characters as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, fail to effectively market and distribute to the only retailer carrying this product and then blame it on the customers who bought multiple figures to support the line.

I can only imagine the headache that Doc Mego went through with his vision.

Thanks again, Doc, for realizing Flash, Luthor, Cheetah Capt. Cold and all the others. It's a shame we didn't get this final wave and all the more so if it included Supergirl, Robin and Joker.

I don't want to know. If it came out that Hawkman was part of the proposed wave, my head would explode.

To me the entire outcome of this line is garbage! Mattel screwed these up from the beginning. They were marketed very poorly by Mattel. Toys R Us did not help out at all either to push this line. Why would a toy store that has a toy line exclusivley to them not do good advertising? Not only that, why would they not keep their shelves stocked and stay current to each wave? Sorry but this line should not have gone into the stores first. Kids today love their action figures. It was too much of a gamble to sell a new line of MEGO's without knowing how todays kids would have reacted to them. This line should have started on Matty Collector. I bet if it had it may have gone to stores or just been only on Matty. We could still have the line to enjoy today! THANK YOU DR. MEGO FOR WHAT YOU DID!!! I LOVE THEM ALL!!!

I thought Green Arrow did well enough to continue producing these figures. So, why not make a Robin the same way?

Not to rain on the parade, but I think Doc's post was an answer to this post:

Expectation is the death of discovery.

Maybe Doc can offer some bootleg figures based on the proto types, I am just kidding. I wonder though, did DC Retro Action turn a profit? If so why not do small runs and finish out the run? I mean why waste the costs associated with making the proto-types. Is there anyway to bombarde requests to Mattel to make these? Can a thousand or more of us write Mattel a letter, I mean imagine Mattel receiving a piles of letters, someone would surely pay attention...

No one at Mattel cares what we think here. We already tried a petition to show that there is interest for the line to continue and it did not work. All we got was false hopes from Mattel that if we buy their remaining stock of RA from Matty we might get more characters. Now that those are gone ( who knows if they really are ) Toyguru tells us that the line just did not sell well enough to offer new characters.
