In that case they should've taken the cheesy season 1 route (Worf, Yar, Troi, Riker, Geordi, Wesley, etc.). I'm not a big fan of Season 1's style, but it definitely fits Mego better than the sleeker later looks. Mego just doesn't fit the later TNG brand IMO. Maybe I'll eat my words later...

Fans over on Star Trek Homepage have not responded positively to these new, TNG retro figures, but to be fair, many of their complaints kind of miss the point of the figures. None the less, it's an interesting, albeit unfortunate, perspective:
Star Trek First Look: Diamond Goes Retro With Picard and BorgLast edited by thunderbolt; Sep 8, '11, 4:07 PM.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Yeah, we are on kind of an island when it comes to the retro look.
Keep in mind that Picard has also been done to death, and just a few years ago there was the 9" figure, which is still easily available, so I'm sure there will inevitably be comparisons to this one as well.
I'm suspecting what some trek collectors would go nuts for is some really high end 1/6th Hot Toys figures of Picard and co.Comment

This is exactly what I'm talking about-- these go for a penny on ebay, so I don't really know what Diamond is thinking here. Don't get me wrong, I wish them every success and hope they sell two to every human being on the planet, but I really don't think TNG is the right direction for this line.
I'm really surprised they don't just focus on TOS. It's really the only stuff that holds any value. That's what most people buy.
There are so many they could still do...all the Mirror Mirror crew, Trelane, Kor, Ruk, and the list goes on and on...Comment

Thanks Enyawd72. And again, I love this line and think it's great and hope it does well, I just think this is a momentary misstep before they get back to things like your great ideas. I'd really like to see Kor for sure. And Harry Mudd, Wheelchair Pike, the creepy kid (and his puppet) from the Corbmite Manuver, a more accurate TOS Romulan, the female Romulan commander, T'Pau, one of the goofy red dudes from The Apple, Sarek, Marta, and most of all...a Tellarite!Comment

I agree completely that there are probably fewer of us retro fans than we think. I have a lot of friends that collect action figures but most of them just don't get it when it comes to the retro Mego style stuff. These are the same guys though that love it every time George Lucas updates something in the original Star Wars trilogy or when Paramount releases Star Trek with enhanced modern special effects. I just simply tell them they are missing the point. As far as the STTNG figures I am looking forward to them but I don't hold much hope that the line will live long enough to get the characters I would love to see made.Comment

I think time-wise the Next Gen stuff comes in at an awkward point. Fans of the show might not care so much for the 8" figures 'cos that format was pretty much gone by the time of the show; and the show appealed to everybody: many of whom aren't/weren't toy collectors. That being said, there are tons of fans out there of all ken, and there were so many fans that there's a chance figures like these would do okay.

If Diamond has run it's course with the 7" line, then the ReMego route might be a lower cost alternative to keeping the entire Trek license going and allowing them to produce a lower run of figures.
At this point though, now that the TOS bridge crew is complete, I think they probably would sell more TNG Mego style figures of Picard, Data, et al than less recognizabe 2nd or 3rd string characters from TOS.Comment

I'm not surprised there is some outcry on these, I used to work TNG conventions and as a whole, the fans are very details oriented. "Drink myself stupid at my dealers table" details orientated....
However, I do think there are a lot of folks who love and collect the Mego trek line who will enjoy these.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I want to be able to post pictures of Dr Who getting out of the Tardis on a transporter pad. Or Dr Who standing with Picard in front of the main viewer on the bridge, watching the Borg and the Cybermen assimilate each other.
