Mattel Reply To My Letter To Save RA....

So like many of you I actually wrote a letter to Mattel regarding saving the RA line. I got this in the mail yesterday. Make of it what you will.

My letter was originally sent to the CA address. This was on nice Mattel letter head and about as official as it gets.

    Dear Mr. MegoSuperman,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Mattel Retro Action Figures. We appreciate your interest in our products and we apologize for your disappointment.

There are many factors that determine the discontinuation of a product and, unfortunately, some items must occasionally move aside to allow room for new products. However, consumer feedback is very important to us and we have forwarded your comments to the appropriate personnel here at Mattel for their interest.

We appreciate the time you have taken to check with us and we hope we can assist you sometime in the future.

    Sincerely,

    Mattel, Inc

a standard reply letter. I'm sure many of us like me and you as well since you wrote to Mattel just don't want the line to end but it seems unless something like biff bam boom doesn't get the pick up then it's over and I think that's a long shot. I'm hoping but my hopes are pretty much dashed at this point.

Yes....the chances of a reversal at this point are slim. To be honest...if this was Mattel's production completely...and they said it was done...I would figure it is finished. But as long as Doc Mego had something to do with it....it has a chance to resurface in one form or another some day.

Every since I have known Paul...he said he would do this...and he did.

Either way...I am glad I wrote it....and said my peace...along with emails and signing the petition. I can rest easy that I did what I could....and I am cool with that.

      Hope springs eternal!

First of all I applaud your efforts for at least trying to persuade Mattel to keep the line going.

However, I cannot help but feel what really happened to your letter was it was filed in file 13.

The main thing is that you tried.

At least you received a response and you can keep the response letter for memorabilia.

                  Dear Mr. MegoSuperman,
                  Dear Insignificant consumer

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Mattel Retro Action Figures.
Thank you for bothering us unnecessarily.

We appreciate your interest in our products and we apologize for your disappointment.
We could care less what you think, and could care less how you feel. If so we would have done a better job with the initial releases. We thought we could make millions on Mego collectors even though the product we developed with today's technology didn't compare, in quality, to the figures Mego put out 40 years ago. Or to the figures that companies that will never even come close to our size are producing right now. It's not like we have the same people involved. UMMM... I won't comment.

There are many factors that determine the discontinuation of a product and, unfortunately, some items must occasionally move aside to allow room for new products.
We have absolutely no idea why this line failed. We simply don't have the ability to know. If we had the bodies wouldn't have slouched and squatted and damaged the initial releases. It's not like we've been doing toys for a long time and are able to put out a quality product. Oh wait yes we have and can but didn't. We would have at least given sufficient supply to some form of retail outlet to make them available to consumers.

However, consumer feedback is very important to us and we have forwarded your comments to the appropriate personnel here at Mattel for their interest.
I have placed your letter in the round file cabinet which will be transferred by the janitor to our main consumer file cabinet when he takes out the garbage.

We appreciate the time you have taken to check with us and we hope we can assist you sometime in the future.

Stop bothering us and go buy our stuff that does make us big bucks like Barbie and Hot Wheels. (Wonder how Barbie sales would be if she couldn't stand up or HW if the axles were all bent? I still think some quality control and some effort on their part would have brought this line deeper. Maybe not forever but longer than it did.)

                  Sincerely,

Realize I'm having fun. I realize I've made this rant before. I understand how business works and honestly believe a college degree does not make you capable of getting the job done in every position. Maybe if Mattel took some responsibility I'd feel better. Maybe we all would. "We made some bad decisions and could have done a better job." It wouldn't bring the line back but at least it's an explanation. A group of video game playing, comic reading, toy nerds would never have let that first body go to market. But Mattel did.

DM put his heart and soul into getting these to market and in all honesty he did. 8" Superman and Batman hung side by side again in a retail store. Not one near me but I've heard rumors. Flash and GL were included. We got new villains. As collectors we've seen what members of this board can do with a character in 8" scale, in mass production. We were all excited and then left a little empty. Mattel had the input, capability, and resources to get it done. They've done it before, with other lines, and just didn't with this one. We just wanted the same satisfaction MOTU collectors are getting from their releases. The same effort put into the scale we love as they get.

I am very serious about their lack of effort. Just my personal opinion, but compared to EMCE, BBP, Diamond, CAW,ZICA, etc Mattel shouldn't even be in the toy market if you compare the final products. Which should make someone at Mattel say why? They won't but they should. Especially since we all know that some of the same people were involved in development. DC is a far superior license to any of the others mentioned and was poorly transferred to 8" scale. I won't even point to character selection because I think it's a moot point. I think all the characters we saw would have been successful if handled correctly. I believe a quality body and better distribution, including Matty online, would have increased sales dramatically. FC figures by Toy Biz were better available. Hasbro's Sig. Series body was better made. FC's bodies and heads were goofy looking but well made. Even the Playing Mantis AJ stood right out of the box.

The Matty exclusives "seem" to have sold out though who knows for sure. That seems to be OK for He-man though Mattel owns that license. A major monetary difference, I know. Even if a couple of Lex's or Sinestro's are still hanging on peg hooks it means all the others sold, and I bet the Sinestro's have moved since the movie release, now that younger kids know who he is.

I am also very sad to see this line go. Especially since my 7 year-old son is really into it. However, at the same time there are not enough ways for me to say thank you to all those involved for bringing Mego back to life; if only for a brief period.

Well Doc I had used: Phil McKracken but I removed it for the MM benefit.

No I sent my actual name and address and a real typed letter hand addressed. So someone took the time to answer back...form letter or not. So I will give Mattel "props" for that. I sent about 3-4 emails to different Mattel email addresses without a single response. Go figure.

I do wonder if the fact I told them I was friends with Chuck Norris had any bearing on the response????
