If its a wrestling figure, it won't pull any money from my wallet no matter how tough it is. I liked Big Jim as a kid, but yeah he would have to be reinvisioned to a modern special forces agent or something. The boxing, karate, camping, monkey wrestling Jim of the 70s just wouldn't fly.

Unfortunately I don't think these big companies even understand what made MEGO so popular back in the day, thats why they just can' get it right and we get the goofball Famous Covers and the Mattel body on the retro action figures. The body, headsculpt and clothes are very important, but they have to do modern characters to appeal to modern day kids.

Its why G.I. Joe went from realistic military in the 70s to invisible arms and legs eagle eye Joe and eventually to the modern day crazy space age military fighting alien snake men.

You have to create a superior product AND appeal to the modern day marketplace.

I agree, a straight re-do of Big Jim would likely fall on it's face. I'm speaking strictly from my own appeal. That said, if he was reinvented with a modern look, he "might" take off.

I can't fathom anyone not buying a Dr Steel figure.

Yep. Big Jim would be very cool to see. But his look and appeal very much came from the 70's generation that enjoyed dressing a figure up in sports wear and playing make believe. As much as I would love to see him rejuvenated, I doubt today's kids (whom enjoy over-the-top game animation), would embrace him. He would certainly need a new hairdo. Plus they would have to do a mass distribution to make him affordable. In this case, the overseas market might be more viable than the US, since Big Jim continued long after his run in the states. It's fun thinking about the possibilities though.

Mattel told me in the Q&A, same one that said the line was finished, that He-Man and MOTU would require new tooling. They seemed to indicate that they weren't interested in doing that.

I'd guess a DC character that was already in the bag.

I could almost see them doing a WWE figure Retro Style. Just went to a Toys R Us (Freehold, NJ) earlier today, saw a plethora of Mattel's WWE figures, one Sinestro, one Luthor.

I can honestly say I've never seen ANY RA DC figures in TRUs besides wave 1. And now of course all you see are Lex and Sinestro. I bought Wave 1 from TRU, and the rest online. I really wanted to buy this in brick-n-mortar stores to get that old time Mego feeling, but Mattel and TRU dropped the ball on us. So Entertainment Earth got my business.

In fact, I'm sure if Mattel offered these through Matty and e-tailers like EE, the line would still do well.

Yeah I don't understand Mattel's thinking. Sure we complained about this and that but we still bought them when we could find them. Heck if they want more proof, then how about how fast Captain Cold sold out when they had him for $5.99 on line? If there was no interest in these you'd think he'd still be sitting there.

I agree. I too love that these guys are telling Mattel off. They should also point out the reason John Stewart and probably Kyle won't sell now is because they foolishly announced the line was dead so why would most fans buy these boring GL figures now when they know they will never see Robin,Hawkman,Joker etc? I was going to buy John Stewart but stopped dead in my tracks after hearing the line was dead. I'm not paying for figures I don't really care for when I know I won't get more. I think Mattel should do a test wave. Put Robin,Joker,Supergirl and Bizarro on matty.com and watch them sell out instantly. Face it Mattel...not many wanted a wave exclusive to GL. You can get away with that with Batman not GL.
