I was saddened to read the news about the line's demise. There's a large list of reasons for the failure of this to be prosperous that have already been covered by people way more knowledgeable than myself. I won't dwell on that. I'd like to keep to positives and concentrate on what we(I) did get instead of what was lacking.
MY two favorites - It's no secret my favorite figures of all time and my two favorite comic characters ever are Superman and Shazam. They were the first two Megos I had as a child, and both had a lasting influence on me. The RA Superman wasn't without fault, but to have a new cloth version was very cool. The Shazam figure to me is stellar and fulfills my need for the Big Red Cheese. I now have two new Megoish figures of those two 37 years after my first. That makes me smile.
My villains - Somehow, Mattel managed to make my three favorite DC villains, Sinestro, Darkseid and Black Adam. I have yet to find a BA, but I went ahead and did my part and picked up a Sinestro a few minutes ago. Sure he's wobbly, but I got him standing good now and he looks really good. I know Joker fans got the shaft, but I'm selfish. I gots what I wanted. A Deathstroke would have rounded out all my favs.
Original JLA - Whether by design or cooincidence, we got the original members of the Justice League. I am now determined to grab all of these as well, loose or carded. I loved the JLA as a kid, and to have the ablility to complete the "seven" is special. I know there were more desired characters, but at least Mattel and EMCE payed homage and tribute to the League. I appreciate the sentiment.
I doubt the online campaigns and e-mails will change the course of events, but it's good to see the positive feelings towards this line. It will always have it's detractors, but it will always have it's fans. Until very recently I floated around in the middle. I am leaning to fan now. I can acknowledge the flaws and still accentuate the good and I feel the latter outweighs the former. I have no intention of picking up all of them, but I now have the desire to purchase more than I planned.
