License Idea: The Fresh Beat Band

I was thinking while watching this show with my daughter this morning that Nick Jr.'s Fresh Beat Band would be an excellent door opener for this generation of kids to get into the 8 inch format.

Considering the band is just a group of kids in bright color plain clothes I think they would look good in the Re-Mego style. Plus the 8 inch scale really is a perfect size for the 2 to 7 year olds that the show targets.

Plus if we could get the next generation early enough...

    Just a thought.

The Wiggles would be easy and popular.

If they could get a few really good licenses that would be popular and hang around in stores, other licenses would follow much easier. Once the original Mego was popular, they started doing all kinds of stuff.
My posts were needlessly deleted ...

nothing elicits more disdain in my house than the Fresh Beat Band. :-) Makes the Monkees look like the Beatles.
      Fresh, not from concentrate.

Hoo boy, they must REALLY stink then!

Question: Would a person need a license to produce figures of his own imagination? I know that you need a license to operate a business, but since the characters would be entirely original, would a license for them be necessary?

Let's say you take a character from history, like say Henry VIII; would you need a license to produce his likeness (say that 5x fast, I dare ya! LOL!)

        Or Elizabeth I?

Or characters from mythology? If they aren't anything like the current mythology characters in the comics that are out, would a person need a license?

I know that a copyright would be necessary to protect your work from being ripped off by others, but since when has that stopped anyone?

Nah. I'm pretty sure all of those historical types are fair game. Such as Castaways Jesse James. The trick though is to figure out how to market them in such a way that the 'masses' will support the line.

If you figure that out PLEASE give me a call. We'll make a fortune!

The sad truth is that most people don't buy historical figures.

I would love to do romans, knights, crusaders, soldiers, etc.
but I don't see enough interest to justify the production costs.

The knights, pirates, and Robin Hood were some of MEGO's best
work - but they didn't sell well. People buy licensed characters
            because they know the backstory.

              *Sigh*

              I guess you're right, Doc.

There's very little originality in anything anymore; comics, movies, novels.

As cool as a concept like Marx's "Best of the West" was, I don't think it would fly with kids today. Kids had to make up their own stories! We were lucky, in that we got to use our own imaginations, which was better than anything Hollywood could deliver.

I am leaning toward more like hysterical then historical.

My daughter would want Fresh Beat Band figures. My son was into the Wiggles. There will be another such group in a few years, I'm sure.

That really sucks, cause I would love to see Romans, Knights, Crusaders, and Soldiers. Besides the figures, the customizing options would be awesome to mess with.
