actually, what would be cool is if thye sold costume/accessory sets for the existing figures so you could just buy more of say Kirk, and dress him in the different costume

I would be all-over "evil" crew members. EMCE should at least make an evil Spock. I'd think he would be a big seller with even non-mego trek fans. Variants have always been a good way to extend a toy line and shouldn't be dismissed out-of-hand.

These aren't "Variant Costume" figures though. They're entirely viable alternate universe versions.

Spock will necessitate a new head, and I'd like to get an 'angry evil Sulu' headsculpt as well.

I think they'd make great exclusives if nothing else.

nah!,been there done that with playmates figures,not as cool as EMCE would do them of course,i like the theme outfits to be sold without having to buy the same figure over and over again,although the twilight shatner idea would be kind of neat for the trek line .

Yeah, I consider them separate characters, myself. I was just thinking about five minutes ago a Lt. Leslie would be cool, too. We need a security redshirt! I've thought about using Pa Walton's noggin', but EMCE would do it right.

There are some essential variations and the "Mirror, Mirror" crew is definitely one of them. Team building is fun!

Well, with Nurse Chapel and Vina not green-lit, resorting to "Mirror, Mirror" characters would not be about running out of ideas, but keeping the line moving. Bring 'em on, I say! Pair Evil Kirk with Vina and Evil Spock with Chapel to get the retailers on board.
