Any chance we will see less popular DC Retros as Matty exclusives?
Any chance we will see less popular DC Retros as Matty exclusives?
If there are 2 figures I always wanted out of a DC line, it would be Sgt. Rock and Blackhawk! Chances of seeing either in a normal assortment? I would say Zippo. But I think folks here would really dig both of them!
Sgt. Rock and I THINK Blackhawk were featured on the 7-11 cups of the
70s, so, to me, they have just as much right as other "C-listers" to be
produced. (Being that they were important enough back THEN... so why
not have them part of a retro line)
I wonder if the fact that they are more "military" than "costumed hero"
in their appearance will affect them being included if the line reaches 50 or 60 characters.
I also wonder if the fact that there have been characters like
PARASITE, OCEAN MASTER and CREEPER since the "7-11" era that
have gotten more attention in comics and on animated
shows will affect SGT. R & BH being included if the line reaches
50 or 60 characters.
(Of course I am not taking into account that if the line reaches
50 or 60 figures, that more "modern characters" that didn't even exist
during the Mego Era may be produced in greater number than they
already even have... THAT remains to be seen, and has been brought up
in numerous other threads)
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
I think Warlord and Deimos would be cool. Hey, it could happen. They did make it to a JLU three pack, after all. Nah, there's no chance. Still be cool though.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I suspect we won't see them... but yeah, put me in the "would really dig both" camp.
I'd love to them make see a Sgt Rock, supposedly he was on Mego's to-do list back in the day. Blackhawk would be kinda cool, though not one of my silver age favorites
I really really really want an Enemy Ace
i figue the thing that would put off Rock or Blackhawk is the Villain to hero ratio. Just pair them.... I like getting semi obscure guys like Black Adam and Darkside. I really wish they would keep the retro theme in mind. while I do like the idea of getting a ton of figs, i don't want all these johnny come 80's figs to overshadow the 70's characters. I still want to build the complete leigon of doom! they could always rotate a popular character into different assortments to bring an additional villain in... re issue Batman, but pair him with Riddler, or the Joker. Oceanmaster would be awesome too. But I really really want Rock and Blackhawk.
I would be glad to see obscure characters, I know that Mattel probably wants to make sure a lot of the more popular figures are made, or figures that tie in with a promotion like the Green Lantern movie. That does make the most business sense, betting on the fact that kids will be into Green lantern around that time. And Batman character figures around the time of the Batman movie.
What I hope we don't see is the fate of many of the other figure toy lines, 500 different Iron Mans, 500 different Batmans, etc. Now that, in my opinion, would be much worse than the fact that they will mine every DC comics era for the best figures to produce.
I'd love a Dr. fate with a removable metallic helmet, like thor's helmet and a necklace/ amulet, in a plastic like the Wondergirl necklace.
Same with Hawkman.
If he had a removable helmet/mask and shoulder straps with snap on (with small hole and plug) wings he could still fit in the standard blister...
Here are my latest hopes. These would all need to be exclusives, I guess.
By the way Sgt Rock would be cool.
I would like to see:
Black Canary to go with Green Arrow
Supes' pal Jimmy Olsen and Supes' girlfriend Lois Lane
Short Shorts Brainiac
(really wishful thinking) Grodd
Jay Garrick and Allan Scott
When I am grown to man's estate,
I shall be very proud and great.
And tell the other girls and boys,
not to meddle with my toys.
