    Mego vs Emce: Round One

So, we all prefer the original mego body over anything Mattel ever puts out, but what about the head and costume? Has 30 years of technoligy and experience made it any better?

Round One: Retro-Action Shazam! vs Mego Shazam!

    Head Sculpt - new one

Costume - new one (except the belt)

Boots - I prefer the old ones b/c of the thickness of the new boots.

    Cape - no brainer.

Emblem - I like the old yellow one.

How do you think Captain Marvel's 30 year replacement measures up? I think he looks pretty awesome and can't wait to get him.

I think with the improved head sculpt and paint job, EMCE wins hands down across the board. Mego Shazam was always pretty generic with the head sculpt, so it should come as no surprise to many, that he got used a lot as a Dick Grayson or Peter Parker in my youth. I prefer the gold updates on the EMCE Shazam as well. It gives him a more "God-like" aura, which fits better with his character. The cape and boots are nicely done and a vast improvement over the generic versions Mego put out. It should be noted that with the early prototype, it appeared EMCE Shazam was headed for disaster. So it's with great relief that the final product received the improvements many felt were needed. I think that speaks volumes for EMCE's attention to the customer. And that's coming from an industry that seldom gives that much consideration to those who want a quality product. My opinion on this line (and the talent behind them) continues to rise. I think this line is headed for a whole new arena Mego never saw in it's heyday. Great job guys.

I like the old mego head because when I was a kid that was my favorite mego and I still have him. When I get a new Shazam I will put all the new stuff on my old mego I think he deserves it because he survived my childhood. There were a lot of action figure shootings and explosions.

I would like to see a photo of the two side by side, but in my opinion the new one wins every round.

The vintage Shazam is the product of a toy company selling to kids.
It is beautiful for what it is - and I love it.

The new Shazam is built on 40 years of reading comics, watching
the TV shows and movie serial, and seeing Alex Ross' and Jerry
            Ordway's take on the character.

After seeing the DC Direct 13 inch version with tan boots instead
of gold, I was very relived to see the production version of ours
at Diamond's display at Toy Fair.

                There is no comparison.
These are two different eras and what each had to offer.
Mego was good because it as original and all of the memories that surround the figures for me.
The EMCE is the best because of the quality and the better research and of course a real toy company backing the images and product of the figures.

It is unfair to compare them both in some sort of contest for me.
