Meijer has Retro Action Wave 3? Not So Fast!

I just left a Meijer store in the Chicago-area where I was informed that Wave 3 will not be there and according to the computer inventory system Mattel Retro Action Wave 3 has been DISCONTINUED at Meijer.

"Discontinued?", I said. "How could it be discontinued when they have three pegs for them and they have never even been in stock? How can you discontinue something you never even had?"

The guy could only say what the computer says. Meijer will not be carrying Mattel Retro Action.

Now, could the computer be wrong? Your guess is as good as mine. But, I went to Meijer on Tuesday and there was one peg for them and the gal I spoke to said they "may" be coming in overnight Wednesday and to check back Thursday morning.

On Thursday morning there were now 3 pegs empty and waiting for Wave 3 and the same gal checked the computer again and said, "try back Saturday morning when we'll be stocking our Friday night shipment."

And, that leads me to today. Three empty pegs and a computer that says the line has been discontinued with Meijer (before they even get it).

I cannot put into words how frustrated I am now. I cannot find these at any Toys R Us in my area (not to mention Wave 2); I hoped to get them at Meijer but not any longer; and because I've been waiting to get them in a brick and mortar store they are now sold out at toysrus.com (exept for Captain Cold).

I have pulled out all of the few remaing hairs I have in frustration. If I am overreacting please somebody talk me off the proverbial "ledge".

Repeat to yourself "You can tell that buy and sell will be hell if you're dealing with Mattel" 50 times. Really. The company has one of the best licenses and one of the worst distribution methods in business...it was that way with all other DC lines, and it will be that way with the Retros, too. Don't blame Emce or the Doc. Blame Mattel.

The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger, attachment, fear and suspicion, while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility are the sources of peace and happiness.” - The Dalai Lama

Has any one confirmed or denied these coming to Meijer? I am wondering if the official announcement is coming at Toy Fair.
When I worked at Walmart, we used to set our shelves all the time with a place for items that were not yet available. Usually these resets covered about a 6 month period. If you scanned them, they would show then item was not available. Then one day, it would come in and be available. Now if / when Meijer does get them, let's hope they don't fill in the pegs with other items and leave the retro figures in the back room because the stockers don't know where to put them!

            A couple of things:

Please do NOT insinuate or assume I am not happy with Doc Mego or EMCE. I have nothing but love for them and bringing back MEGO. I do not know who to be mad at here but it is not either of those two.

Secondly, I do NOT want to order them online. I want to buy them at a brick and mortar store like I did when I was a kid. I do not want somebody in a warehouse picking out what Flash I get. I want to pick for myself.

My son works at Meijers and he has seen them in the shipping box in the back. This store has a peg for each figure. They just aren't able to put them out yet. So I'm on standby.

As soon as I read this I thought of our conversation the other night Tom!! Austin, I have a feeling you will INDEED be picking your own Flash out in Meijers!! I am TOTALLY with you in terms of wanting to pull them off the peg yourself as opposed to online. In fact, I bought my Wave 2 figures in the SAME exact building I bought some of my Megos at back in the 70's! It's a TJ Maxx now but it used to be a Bradlee's deaprtment store in the 70's. So I'm with you, there's just something about finding them hanging on the pegs and buying them in a store that can't be replicated by simply placing an order online. Then once the figure is on display, each one has it's own "story"...like "I remember buying Batman at TJM" or "I remember driving to 3 different TRU's to get a Superman" as opposed to "I remember when the Postman left a box at my door."

I'm just surprised (& thriled) that Meijer "has" them, not just TRU!!

And I hear you Austin, about choosing your figures--I buy mine ($$$) at my comics shop, but the owner lets me go through the stock & pick ones I like.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Hey Austin: I'm sorry...I wrote my post quickly and badly, and meant it very generally - not toward you at all - regarding people thinking Doc or Emce may have a greater role in the way things work than they do. Mattel has had problems and criticisms across the board for availability, distribution, the way figures look, etc. for everything from DC's Legends to DCUC to He-Man. Sinestro in the Legends line has never been the right height until the last reissue, the distribution on that line is notoriously spotty, etc. Likewise, people are really angry at MOTU exclusives because Vikor sold out before he was even really "available" at mattycollector. So the "here today, gone tomorrow" pegs at Meijier's really par for the course for Mattel...I just meant to stave off anybody asking Doc or Emce what the deal was, because I don't think the retailers, consultants or fans have any insight into Mattel's methods, or lack thereof.

                      Austin,

I posted almost the same response in another thread. With the Gentleman that said his son has seen them in back. This is good news. I am sure they have to wait until some sort of announcement.

Have you tried going to some comic stores? A good many of them sell RA figures too.

Oh wow that is frustrating. I would be livid to deal with that. Austin I hope that it all works out and. Soon you will picking them out feverishly. Its insane you have had deal with that. VERY VERY surprising that they would be listed as discontinued before they even hit the pegs.
