I did this years ago with Star Wars figures, which I've just recently sold most of them off except for the very few I really wanted to keep. I've gotten a lot more selective now. I get only characters I care about and will look good sitting on my desk.

Right now I'm crazy about the DC Retro line. I'm up in the air about getting every single figure though. Maybe I'll pick up the ones I don't like just to trade. Aquaman is a character I really like but I wasn't to crazy about his head sculpt. I got him anyway.Comment

If money and space was no object, then heck I would buy 2 of each ,1 to open and 1 to keep on the card.As it is I only buy the ones that intrest me.Comment

I only wanted Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman b/c I wanted the '73 SuperFriends. I don't care about the others."Do you believe, you believe in magic?

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

I have to admit I have bought some Mattel figures I didn't think I would because the price was right.Comment

I wish I were disciplined enough to get just the ones I really loved. For me that really the heroes. I agree that Flash doesn't have a good face sculpt and I'm not feeling Martian Manhunter or Darkseid.
But I bought Sinestro and Lex because the price was right. Now that I have them I kinda like them. But I have a feeling that they'll eventually sorta disapear from the line up.
Like someone said about the Star Wars line...I wanted all of those..and eventually gave up...
I think it's interesting that some of you have skipped buying Batman and Superman. I figured that those would have been the 2 figures that everyone bought.Comment

I definitely collect a lot less than I did before, and have come to focus primarily on Megos/Re-Megos and customs of same, especially of properties that appeal to me personally (superheroes, sci-fi, monsters).
While I would love to have them all, lines like Lost, Venture Bros. and Twilight Zone, had to go to the wayside, as I'm not an avid follower of the source material (don't get me wrong, BBP, those are some great figures and you nailed the likenesses. VERY HARD to give those a pass. I almost passed on the Dark Shadows line, but justified that after I saw the Barnabas and Werewolf figures). Besides, that frees up money for stuff like the upcoming Dr. Who line.
One thing that I stopped doing was buying multiples of the same character. I'll buy the best possible specimen of a character I can find, and that'll be it; I really don't need more than one of a character (a new retro Spider-Man might be an exception, but he'd be the only one I'd get two of - one to open, one to keep in the package).Last edited by Timothy2251; Jan 16, '11, 8:26 AM."It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. At this point, I've bought multiples of most of the figures. I really love displaying them loose with their carded counterpart in the background. The different colors really give off that Superfriends vibe.
I have a single Sinestro and will pass on the Matty exclusive Green Lantern. Not a fan of Green Lantern and it seems like ordering from Matty is a nightmare. I was able to get Green Arrow but I kept thinking would it be sold out before I got to checkout. Not fun at all.
Glad they are exclusives and hope to see some old favorites revealed at Toyfair. This place wil be buzzing in February!Comment

I went to two TRU's yesterday and they both had restocked their retro pegs. But they did so with even more Lex & Sinestros. I was able to find a Superman on a banged up card. At the other store they had the Ghost Busters on display. Which brings me to the topic of this thread. I'm not a big fan of the animated series but I bought them anyway. I think it was an impulse purchase.Comment

In the Retro Action series, I have purchased all of them to date. Waves 1 and 3 I bought at full price. But Wave 2 I shopped for cheaper prices and that paid off well. This philosophy will likely continue with all future waves. The Matty Exclusives I pick up automatically. Those are sold at limited quantities and their market value has been good thus far. Look at Green Arrow.
The other licensed lines I pick and choose. I've got Flash and Ming. But I haven't picked up any Lost or Twilight Zone figures. Of course I invested in the Buck Rogers figures, but as more waves come out, I will be picky as to who I want. Hawk and Twiki will likely end my purchase with that series. And of course I picked up the Retro monsters which are a lot of fun.
With the Toy Fair coming up, I sense there will be even more saturation in the eight inch market. So I will likely pick and choose from those licenses as well. Unless it's an iconic line, I am not likely to buy in. The idea of figures being eight inches is less of a novelty now. We're reaching a point that will soon rival the Heyday of the mid 70's. Not that this is a bad thing by any stretch! But with the wide variety out there now, I tend to feel less compelled to pick up just any character. They really have be ones I want.

I bought two Venture Bros figs basically to support the line. I've never seen an episode and have no interest in doing so. I just bought them becaus they were 8".Check out my website: Megozine Covers - HomeComment

I didn't plan on buying the remakes, but I've ended up with a Batman, Aquaman and Wonder Woman. My daughter plays with them, so it's worthwhile. If I found a 10 buck Superman, I'd pick him up, but not for a dollar higher. I'll buy the rest of Wave 3, skip the Matty GL's, (unless the fourth figure is Star Sapphire or someone non-derivative), and pass on Shazam unless he turns up as a bargain.
It's like the Matty GA; nice design, but I'm not in the mood to drop 25+ for custom parts for an already decent figure.Comment
