    EMCE packaging

Why are there holes underneath the bubble of the DC Retro Action Figures? And why are the Star Trek & Universal Monsters figures packaged differently than the DC figures?

EMCE isn't the same as Mattel. Mattel requires those little holes for whatever reason (probably a child safety thing?)
EMCE is more collector based and comes with the resealable shell so you can put the figures back in the package if you want to.

But they are two totally different companies.

Simply its Mattel V.S. Diamond Select. Ultimately they decide what packaging to use not Emce. Diamond prefers the clams apparantly while Mattel the blister card. The Holes are in all Mattel packaging. I am guessing it allows the product to breathe in the packaging. I am sure there is technical reasons as well , but I am far from that informed. LOL.

My understanding is the holes were put in to allow the product to "breath" after being painted so there would be no strong paint or factory odor when the consumer opened the package.

The holes were put there originaly so the liqued drip from the first series had a place to drain out so after they fixed the "drip" problem they just left the packaging alone

Just kidding. But really I think the "breathing" reason would be the one to go with.

Here's something odd I noticed. My son and I both received sets of the Universal Monsters for Christmas. My son opened his first, and I had to take a knife to pop open the clamshell. They were either glued, or welded. No reusable package there.

My Frankenstein was like this, but my Wolfman had no glue or weld. It just popped open. Did they make a running change?

Yeah, the holes were added to allow most of the oily drip to escape or evaporate.

From what I understand, once EMCE releases it's Retro-Action Free Clinic Nurse figure, the drip should stop completely.

I've had that happen with some of the Trek clamshells. Some pop right open while I had to use scissors on some others. My guess is that they must be heat welded and some get more welding than others. I really like the EMCE packaging over the Mattel. It is nice to have something to put the figures back into.
                    It's all good!

Anybody notice with some of the DC retro figures the inside of the bubble looks like it was sweating?

Yeah dude, that's the substance we were referring to. When the factory sprayed the heads (as the story goes) with some kind of release agent (oily crap), they over-did it and the stuff dripped around in the bubble. So they put the holes in to vent. There is at least one thread dedicated to this if you wanna read up on it... cheers!
