    Retro-Action Aquaman Review

Earlier this year I reviewed Retro-Action Lex Luthor and I was quite nice to him. Ever since the Retro-Action line was announced, I've wanted to buy an Aquaman. Now that I finally uh, got my hands on him, what do I think? Is Aquaman worthy of joining the Mego Justice League or is he better off sleeping with the fishes?

Check out the full review and thanks for reading!

    I LOVE the Mattel Aquaman...but I transfered him onto a Cast-A-Way Body.

Nice review. Quite a few shortcomings to this figure (e.g., not being able to stand on its own, scales on the costume rub-off easily, baby-face, etc.) as you described; still, I didn't mind paying $9.99 for it at TJ Maxx.

        From your review:

"I'm of the belief that all Mego-style figures should come with several accessories. The toys just aren't good enough not to. They might have been in 1975, but not in 2010. Batman should come with a batarang and a grappling hook.... Everyone should have at least two accessories."

        I agree with you 100%.

For $20, Batman should come with batarangs, and Two-Face really needs some guns.

Poor Aquaman never gets any respect.

For the record, his head is the MEGO Aquaman with the ears rounded
and the hair made more wavy (like he was swimming underwater).
We had three versions of his eyebrows - black, blonde, and light brown.

DC went with light brown because the blonde was almost invisible.

I don't own one yet, but i'm surprised to read the scales fall off

Are they just painted on the cloth ?

The suit looks GREAT, but the face strikes me as "boyish". I know Paul just said that his head is basically the SAME sculpt, but something seems 'off' a bit...maybe his complexion? I cant put my finger on it..

Regardless of my opinions of this line though, its terrific to see 'Megos' hanging on the store pegs again!

I really like my Aquaman except for the whole head almost ripped off thing. What I ended up doing was gluing it back on as best as I could and I'll have to live without turning it (which is fine since I just display them anyway).
I like his younger looking appearance. Why can't it be Aquaman at the start of his career?

A little hair goes a long way. I'm convinced the hairstyle changes more of
the overall look than people think it would. If you're gonna give Aquaman
thick hair, his face should have a bit more of a mature look
in order to balance it out.... nothing extreme, just not the boyish Mego sculpt.

Probably what your noticing are the softer features as a result of them doing a mold off the original Mego face. Each generation of a mold loses definition as you go. Hence the lost facial definition, which enhances his youthful appearance.

I agree and also the super light yellow hair helps ...

Mostly only children have blonde hair that's that light.

                        That aside, I think it's a decent looking figure ... I'd give it a C+

Well I definitely love the effort. Aquaman is a cool dude, even if he never gets any respect. I wonder if a bit of a cleft chin or something wouldn't make him seem a bit older?

I do like the hair, just something got lost in the translation I guess.

I don't exactly what the process is, but they're some sort of material that can flake off. As mentioned in my review, the button snap on the back of mine has too much material bunched up, so it may be speeding up this process a bit because the whole costume is pulled extra tight... But tiny little flakes are falling off pretty rapidly and some of the scales are already prone to disappearing.

It's still nice to have an Aquaman, though.

I'm surprised it's not silkscreened, like Spidey's suit.
At least, I thought it was.

That Aquaman does look really young. More like an Aqualad. He's still got a cool looking face tho. I would buy an extra just to use as a Johnny Storm.
