I thought it would be interesting if we did a ranking of each character released thus far and a brief reason why. Here are mine:
1) The Flash - From my perspective he's perfect. A childhood dream fully realized all the way down to the boots. Even Mego wouldn't have done it that good.
2) Capt Cold - The best Mego or Mego-like villain ever made. I think he trumps them all. Great sculpt, excellent suit, cool accessories, and cool looking boots.
3) Green Arrow - This figure expands upon the original Mego concept including a vast improvement over the arrow pack design. In the end, a better figure than what Mego put out.
4) Wonder Woman/Cheetah - (TIE) I rank both high because of two things - A new, vastly improved, female body over the Mego original and well executed design of the outfit and accessories. Anything that can beat the original concept must rank high in my book.
5) Lex Luthor - Another childhood favorite brought to life. Very good sculpt and a perfect outfit as I envisioned it as a kid. Nice addition with the Kryptonite accessory.
6) Two-Face - Excellent execution of both sculpt and outfit. A good quality figure and not badly hampered with the body issues due to his suit. Well designed and well thought out.
7) Sinestro - Given the nature and difficulty of this character's head and facial features, I consider this one a successful effort. Very good sculpt. Would have preferred the yellow outfit. I think that would have given him better contrast in color, but overall a good figure.
8) Green Lantern - Another childhood favorite brought to life. Overall happy with the character, but I would have liked more detail in the facial features (more defined cheek bones, jaw, and brow arch). Lantern accessory a nice touch.
9) Manta - Nice villain selection for Aquaman and good sculpt. I liked the way the accessories plug into his head. Nice touch.
10) Superman - Nice updates on the outfit, but the head a tad too flat for my tastes. And the early body problems expose this particular character from reaching his full potential. Boots a little too thick as well.
11) Aquaman - A fun figure with a much better suit than the original Mego. The big setback here is the head sculpt. The face is too youthful and the hair is not faithful to most versions of Aquaman we have seen. Honestly, it just doesn't look like him. That and the body issues hurt his ability to pose well.
12) Batman - I appreciate the ambition and obvious intent with this one. But the RC Batman is a tough project to nail down given the nostalgic loyalty some have to the original and the obvious updates that create a rub against that nostalgia. Here are my thoughts: The Cowl: On it's own merits, the new one is pretty good, but I think it needed expression. Without any emotional register in the cowl, the white eyes make him look blank. As a result he looks too doll-like in the facial region. The gloves are a vast improvement over the Mego oven-mitts and the cape is a nice touch too. What I don't care for is the factory production of the suit. He looks like he's wearing a speedo. And with the body issues at that point, it serves to magnify the flaw that much more. So I certainly give a nod for the effort, but between the quality issues that plagued the line at that point and the nostalgic expectations of many, I think it just had too much working against it.
It's been the most faithful line up to ever duplicate (or exceed) the Mego experience. 2010 is closing out with a superb wave. Let's ring in the new year with great expectations for more Mego-goodness to come!
