I actually prefer the Strange version over the Karloff at this point. There have been so many Karloff Frankies done. I may actually pick up an extra EMCE Frankie to pop on a Karloff AHI head.
The suits for both versions are the same and the suit on the EMCE Frankie is flawless.

So we can have a proper A&C Meet Frankenstein figure

What was the problem with Kharis--the Chaney estate?

If so, will we not see the Phantom? *sob!*

Universal then comes back and says the Mummy has to be Imhotep - which

Toy Fair - if I remember.
I think Karloff image is owed by his estate.Hot Toys might hold the License.
Karloff was second choice to play the monster, it was supposed to be Bella Lugosi but he did not like the makeup and refused to do it.
But when he did the Mummy the contract was more extensive. on universal ownership.

I dig that painting too, but I haven't seen it in years and now as i look at it in my old age, I think those ruby red lips have GOT TO GO!

Didn't notice that as a kid......

Totally the image I was thinking of, too! I had that picture on a puzzle when I was a kid...

While definitely not the caliber of actor Karloff was, I always felt Glenn Strange had a better look for the monster.

His craggy features and added height really worked with the makeup and costume. Add to that the fact that when I think of Frankenstein, I always think of this dayglo green painting of Glenn Strange by James Bama.

In a way it is nice to see someone other than Karloff, much as I love Karloff's monster there is plenty of other stuff out there that has his likeness so maybe another actor's portrayal was a good idea.

I'm sure it had alot to do with ironing out a deal with the Karloff estate. You not only have to pay Universal under those circumstances, but also Sarah Karloff for her dad's likeness. Now I have no idea if Glenn Strange has an estate which collects on his likeness. If he does I have not heard about it. But I dare say going that direction probably helped them save some money in licensing fees.
