Since the Sideshow monsters had both Karloff and Strange I was curious.

I'm sure it had alot to do with ironing out a deal with the Karloff estate. You not only have to pay Universal under those circumstances, but also Sarah Karloff for her dad's likeness. Now I have no idea if Glenn Strange has an estate which collects on his likeness. If he does I have not heard about it. But I dare say going that direction probably helped them save some money in licensing fees.

In a way it is nice to see someone other than Karloff, much as I love Karloff's monster there is plenty of other stuff out there that has his likeness so maybe another actor's portrayal was a good idea.ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF IT British by birth....English by the grace of God. While definitely not the caliber of actor Karloff was, I always felt Glenn Strange had a better look for the monster.

His craggy features and added height really worked with the makeup and costume. Add to that the fact that when I think of Frankenstein, I always think of this dayglo green painting of Glenn Strange by James Bama.

I dig that painting too, but I haven't seen it in years and now as i look at it in my old age, I think those ruby red lips have GOT TO GO!

Didn't notice that as a kid......Expectation is the death of discovery.Comment

We were told by Diamond Select Toys that their license did not include Karloff's
likeness - but Universal owns Glenn Strange outright - so we set off to make
a Strange Frank (no pun intended) and a Kharis Mummy.

Universal then comes back and says the Mummy has to be Imhotep - which
is Karloff - so could we have done the Karloff Frank? I'll try to find out at
 Toy Fair - if I remember.Comment

I think Karloff image is owed by his estate.Hot Toys might hold the License. We were told by Diamond Select Toys that their license did not include Karloff's

Karloff was second choice to play the monster, it was supposed to be Bella Lugosi but he did not like the makeup and refused to do it.
But when he did the Mummy the contract was more extensive. on universal ownership.Comment

What was the problem with Kharis--the Chaney estate?

If so, will we not see the Phantom? *sob!*WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

I actually prefer the Strange version over the Karloff at this point. There have been so many Karloff Frankies done. I may actually pick up an extra EMCE Frankie to pop on a Karloff AHI head.
The suits for both versions are the same and the suit on the EMCE Frankie is flawless. LOOK LOOK

Yeah, I can see the possibilities now - Buck Privates, Hold That Ghost,
The Time of their Lives, A & C meet the Invisible Man.

I used to watch those movies every Sunday morning at 11:30 - which
was the official signal that it was time to get dressed, if you weren't
already. The last mass was at 1:30 so we could watch the end of the
movie, then hi-tail it to church.Comment
