    EMCE Monsters RETOUCHED...

When I first saw these figures, my initial thought was how awesome those sculpts were. My second thought was how much I wanted to tweak those paint jobs to pull out as much of the sculpt as possible.

That Glenn Strange Frankenstein head is incredible. Sean, you created an instant classic and deserve a round of applause. I tried to pull out all of the great details that the factory paint job did not do justice in mass production. When the paint follows the sculpt, you can appreciate the sculpt for what it is.

I did alot of work under the brow and eyes where much of Glenn Strange got that personality in his makeup. I dry-brushed all of the facial details that are hard to see with a factory paint job.

I also lengthened his bangs on top. Anytime you see Strange as the monster, everything on him is just a tad more extreme which lends itself to his overall look. I also eliminated the red lips and gave him his textbook black/green set.

With the Wolfman, I didn't need to do as much with the paint. I just blended the rest of his fur into his face. It really allows you to appreciate the degree of detail and accuracy the original sculpt has.

The figure as a whole really has a nice dramatic flair to him and lights nicely.

John, you really kicked massive arse on this Wolfman. He is already my all time favorite!

And here he is repackaged with his updates...

I couldn't resist a little rematch since I had the two out for display...

You did a great job of pulling the details out of the sculpts. That really looks like glenn strange now!

With the Wolfman, I first did a base cover on the face and ears with Golden Brown to remove that tan paint scheme. I then took Burnt Sienna as the primary and mixed in a little Golden Brown until the color evened and reapplied into those same areas. If you look at the first photo of the Wolfman, you can see how those two tones compliment on the face and blend with the factory paint job. With Frankenstein I mixed Foliage with a little Black for the under brow and eyes. I then went back in and redefined the eye lash pattern to register more like Glenn Strange. After I extended the hair bangs, I went back over the forehead and face with straight Foliage but with just a minimum on the brush to help pull out details on the face (like a dry brush effect). That shade of green contrasts nicely with the factory paint scheme. The lips I just mixed Black as the primary with a little Foliage so the lips looked natural on his skin. Thanks for the thumbs up everyone!

You just sold me on those figures! Initially, I thought the sculpts were off but it was the factory paint job that was off. BTW, your repaints look fantastic. Thank you for showing them.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

Frank was supposed to have shading under the brow - as per Universal -
but the factory missed the detail and out they went.

WOW!! Can't believe that's the same Franky head!! It's amazing what a little paint can do. Wish I had that kind of talent. Nice job on Wolfman also.
