    Drinking Straw Helper?

Has anyone actually assembled Drinking Straw Helper (BBP Venture Bros.) yet? I haven't seen a single pic of an assembled Helper anywhere online...

Today I cut the pieces of Helper from the backing cards of my second set of Venture figs. Realizing I'd need a sharp exacto for best results and, most likely, adhesive...and realizing I suck at cutting a nice consistent curve even more than a straight line...I put the pieces aside for another day. Lol

    "Fun and unreasonably challenging!"

That's great! I hope more Retro figures go this "Build a Figure" route.

Poor Helper...Lol...there's definitely some retro charm there, but I do hope mine turns out a little cleaner when put together. I'll definitely post a pic when he's complete!

            I dig the idea.

A real BAF Helper would have been much cooler, but this has an interesting Mego charm.

Too bad they put his base on upside down.

So, after a new exacto blade and a little over an hour attempting to carefully assemble Helper, my concerns were confirmed. It's pretty much impossible to assemble as is with any decent results. The cardstock for the backing cards is great quality, but does not lend itself to flexibility. Great for MOC display, not so great for Helper assembly (but I'd rather have a nice sturdy backing card for my MOC collection any day). Regarding Helper, at best you get a passably smooth/rounded surface with very visible assembly points that are extremely difficult to adhere or fix into place in any discreet way. At worst, you get obvious and unattractive spider creases breaking color throughout the surface and at assembly points.

The only feasible way I see to get a decent Helper (and what I should've done in the first place) is to print scans of all parts onto nice photo paper, then cut and assemble from there. It's a fun idea and very retro-tastic part of the packaging design, but actual execution isn't that stellar.

I thought about the scan method before, but figured as-is would provide a weightier Helper than something made of flimsy paper, and that I could execute nicely if careful...but it only served to **** me off....Anway, I feel like I've spent more energy on this than it's worth, so I may or may not get around to trying the scan method for a clean result, but if anyone else does, congrats...and post a pic!

I was thinking about doing the scan/print with sticker paper and wrap around dowels the right size and make a rigid one. I need sticker paper, so it won't be for a while.

Photo paper sounds like a terrific compromise.

Doing stickers over a dowel-&-sheet styrene construction would produce a very sturdy Helper...

Anyone come across a site of cleanly scanned pictures? I don't want to cut my VB boards and if someone has already done the scanning it'll save me time.

                        Try this: Mego Talk

Hopefully, it'll work out okay for you. I ran across some scans a while back and saved them, but I don't recall where I got them.

No need to scan it. Send an email to [email protected] for a surprise.
