How are Venture Brothers fans responding?

I was wondering how the VB fanbase (beyond the Mego Museum, that is) was feeling now that the figures are out. When it was first announced they were doing Mego style there was some negative reaction. I've done some poking around, but it's hard to tell. Seems mostly positive....

This is a nicely done review:

I would imagine there would be some sort of write up over at the [adult swim] message boards. I don't go there,so it's just a guess on my part.

I was skeptical when I saw the prototypes at NYTF. It was an interesting marriage between the style of the show and the retro mego-style, I wouldn't have expected it so I think it was a little shocking, as I'm guessing was the case with most Venture fans.

But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. These are very fun figs of likewise fun characters. The execution works well with the adventure-comedy aspects of the show. The prototypes definitely improved, and once I saw the packaged product at the LCS, I was sold. The packaging really compliments this line, it's just perfect (love drinking-straw Helper!)...

The only criticisms I could make are...with Dean & Dr. Venture - the paler color of plastic used for the heads gives off an almost translucent quality, as if the plastic is too thin or something. There's pale...and then there's sickly. It's noticeable, but not terrible. At the end of the day I'd vote for a stay with consistency over having different skin tones between Dean and Hank (unless reissues of Dean and Doc are planned). And of course, some definition is unfortunately lost in the sculpt with these heads since they aren't fully painted. Other than that, the two-piece look for 21 & 24's outfits is a little disappointing (most apparent with 21's gut hanging over his shorts), but it isn't a deal breaker.

Overall they're great, I'm down for the long run with these and can't imagine being happier with any other style or scale. Hopefully I'm just as impressed when I get my second set to open!

I got the whole GANG and they're all great!
I'm a big fan of the show and these figures are true to the detail and a good representation from a 2D to a total 3D figure.
There's a lot of improvement from the prototypes previewed at the NYTF,that is why there are called prototypes-the toy company or the Licensor will still have things to work on it going into production.
Yeah there are some very minor setback like the lack of accessories for each figure except for Brock which have a knife. But overall they are FANTASTIC!

I like them, they feel exactly how something licensed from Venture compound should. They shouldn't be hyperstylized Marvel Legends esque hunks of plastic, they should be slightly wonky scaled figures with cloth outfits, I love that about them. They make for fun displays too.

I think it's great that there are finally Venture toys. I love the head sculpts. The character selection is great. Monarch's folding wings are an unexpected touch.

I don't like the bodies. The arms fall out of the socket too easy and are more difficult to realign. You can't achieve very many poses. The skin tones on Doc and Dean and distracting.

I had this problem with Dr.Venture and trying to realign the arm, the rubber band broke because the metal hook is crimped too tight and severed the rubber. These bodies do suck. If you move the arm it pops out of socket. Every time. And the Henchman figures have painted wrist joints and hands. My Number 24 had his hand break off because the hand was painted to the wrist and it wouldn't move. It just broke right off. The hands are painted on the wrist joint and so if it does move, it shows white where it didn't get paint.

Once I get the Monarch and his henchmen, I'm clocking out.

                    Phantom Limb is a disgrace.

Might pick up Orpheus, and I'll definitely get the rest of the Triad if I do.
Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figures

I like them and want to pick them up, but the cost has thus far kept me away. Same can be said of other toy brands and makers though. Plus, my better half would wind up complaining about how I have brought more toys when she'd prefer I downsize the types I do get, which are only 13" DC Direct (and some random other, yet older things I get when the price is right on eBay, here, or wherever.)

At any rate, the Venture Bros toys looks spot-on fantastic! Maybe someday for me...

That makes me less excited about opening a set... :(

Meh, the idea is great in theory... But BBP is squandering the license on the Mego stuff for the Ventures. It's just a fact. They could be cranking out tons of figures with high sales. It's just not going to happen with these.

While I do like how a couple of figures turned out in this Venture Mego format, the execution on a lot of them has been iffy at best.

Noooooooooooooobody likes these on the major toy forums. Which is a terrible sign. People on those same forums really want Venture Brother figures. BBP should have copied the old Palisades playbook verbatim in regards to this line.

And yes, I'm well aware that Palisades went belly up, perhaps because they often gave fans too much of what they really wanted. But in this instance. BBP is sitting on a gold mine and aren't using it.

Hopefully they'll finish up the core characters in this style, Triad and such, then work on a format that appeals to a wider audience.

Releasing 8-inch action figures first was a carefully coordinated strategy that involved us, the show creators and Cartoon Network. These figures are selling very well, and are meeting our sales goals and forecasts. As written in various other threads, we do have plans to create other scales and styles of figures according to our strategic goals and marketing plans. We are very aware that the licenses we hold all have value, and are looking forward to making all parties involved (fans, studios, show creators, us) happy.

you'll actually find that the mego format is sought after by a lot of creatives in hollywood...we just recently made a presentation on a bunch of different product concepts to a known music star, including a lot of non-mego stuff...when we got to the mego slide he went, "i want that! i wanna be a mego!".

and no, not saying who he is. :-)
