Enjoy the Weapons you DO have! Mattel Q&A September 15th

Not much in the way of info this time. I asked about possibly including more weapons with the line, but they basically told me what we already have is awesomesauce.

Don't understand the sarcasm or the eyerolling here. I thought they were pretty straightforward:

    Your Q:

"The Retro-Action line has been a hit with fans but many are concerned that there suggestions for improvements aren't being heard. If superior bodies aren't coming, will accessories at least be considered?"

    Their A:

"Many of the figures do come with accessories. Green Lantern, Lex Luthor and Aquaman all come with accessories!"

They could have gone further and talked about future possibilities, but what they seemed to be responding to was a perceived lack of realization that there have been accessories to date in the phrasing of the question. I don't see any Marie Antoinetting here.

In addition, I think we've taken pains to ensure that our clients take feedback into consideration, hence the detailed and thoughtful discourse going on in the thread about the request for feedback on the bodies.

Sorry missed this response. Anyway, while the question was answered, it should have been evident that the question was on more weapons being included. IE: At least one per figure.

They took the easy road and didn't elaborate. They full well know that fans are aware of what figures come with weapons. It was a slip up on my part, not carefully editing a fan submitted question to maximize Matty's potential to dodge the question, but it was a still a halfhearted response on their part.

That's true. When you boil down the question, it's "Will accessories be considered?". To which they answered "They are not only considered, but they exist!"

They didn't even avoid the question, they answered it in a straightforward manner!
Expectation is the death of discovery.

I think the answer was evident - 'More of the same.'

This reminds me of the story I used to hear as a kid about the old man, the little boy and the donkey. As they walked by everyone had an opinion on who should ride the donkey and no 2 opinions were the same yet they listened to everyone...

Yes, they literally answered the question the way it was literally phrased. But I think the whole point of these Q & As is to give fans a sense that they're being heard, and that their questions are being answered in good faith. By that measure, Mattel kind of fumbled the ball.

So what accessory did you want them to include for Superman?

Off the top of my head?

                    Kryptonite
                    Steel Girder
                    Black Mercy
                    Kandor
                    Face Hugger Starro

And those are all without even having to tool any new accessories.

Superman I think is pretty forgivable. Batman and Two-Face could have easily been given accessories, though... and their absence is noticeable. I mean, wouldn't it be the perfect way to say "look ma, no oven mitts" by giving him a batarang to hold?

I can live without Superman having something but Batman not having a batarang is just sad (and wrong).

I think lack of accessories are forgivable for most Superheroes unless they are crucial to the character... like Two Face and his coin or Green Lantern and his namesake lantern. And even then it's difficult to come up with an eloquent solution for something so small as Two Face's coin, so I get it.

We all know about unnecessary accessories... remember Toy Biz Hulk's rock?

With that said, Superman coming with a bottled city of Kandor would be way-cool.

Shazam, Martian Manhunter and Darkseid are coming. I can't see them coming with anything. Not even sure Cheetah can have something. Figures such as these are ok. But Batman... not so much.

Kryptonite - Lex already has, as well he should, it would not be special
Steel Girder - too bulky, not really necessary
                              Black Mercy - lame
                              Kandor - lame
                              Face Hugger Starro - lame

Why are there so many whiners re: accessories? Mego Superman never had a freaking accessory. RC Batman never had one either. One minute everyone is harping on "Megos should be exactly like they were back in the day," the next minute they're PO'd that they aren't packaged with extra stuff. You can't have it both ways. They're Mego-like or they're not. The main figure... that's what counts most IMO. True, I have complained about them being priced too high and I know the bodies "wilt" but as far as the overall concept, look at what they are giving us! These Mattel figures capture the WGSH spirit perfectly! BE THANKFUL THEY EVEN EXIST!!
