    I like that Pike a lot !!!

    Also,
For people who want the Retro Heroes Shazam but aren't happy with the sculpt, that Pike head might look pretty neat as a replacement.
    Just thinking out loud.

I liked the Playmates Pike Sculpt better(no offence James). But I'll still buy 3 of them for the Uniforms...to make my "Where No Man Has Gone Before" set.

I think Pike is a ginchy concept but the Salt Vampire is the true apple of my eye.

I hope that's a protoype and the Pike head gets smaller in production...

But I'll still be buying. Dying for TV accurate Klingons!

They didn't capture Jeffery Hunter's likeness nearly as well as they did with Khan in my opinion.

I'm not 100% sure but I think James Brady sculpted a Captain Pike and it was rejected by CBS, so James had to resculpt it ... The one above is the resulpted one.

As an artist, i'm sure it was very tough having your art rejected and told to do it again.

The first thing you think is this is perfection --- how can I improve on it ?

Blame CBS for this one, not James

^^^^Agreed! James has hit every Trek sculpt hes ever done out of the park. CBS seems to be asking more for "not quite" likeness', rather than dead on these days (see Docs story about Chapel in scotts SDCC interviews). Besides, it fits the "thats how Mego would have done it" mold perfectly right now. Very close, but not exact sculpt...almost as though it were based on the animated show.

Pikes tunic is pure joy to behold as well. It even has the little metallic flecks in the fabric. Great stuff.

..and last but not least the Salt Vampire. Who's life is complete without one of these beasties sitting on your bookshelf? Nobodies, thats who!! Cant wait to see who does the first cutom dead red shirt with the spots and ghastly palor to go with ol' Salty!

So where are Vina and Chapel? Are they coming in a later release.
Woudn't it be nice if Diamond would do a combined case packout on these figures instead of selling them in pairs.

You should ask Doc first if will get extra tunics and sell you some seperately.

As for that Salt Vampire. I have to pass. I'd be afraid it might get up after I go to bed and try to kill me in my sleep. Too realistic for me.

Speaking as an artist, I understand that way of thinking, but I quickly realized that it serves no purpose. You develope a thick skin and learn to accept corrections, criticism, and rejection as just part of the artists game ... At least if you are looking for any longevity. Any idea how many unnecessarily mean criticisms I've swam thru? A lot.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

After seeing Chekov and Khan in production, James was worried that he was
sculpting too close to 100% so with Pike he initially went bigger.

When doing the revisions, he got back to the right size. The outfit in the
picture has the original head and the shirt is by Dave McCormick. CBS did
not like the collar or the color, so we made a new shirt that was on
                            display at Comicon.
