Mattel Retro Action Body - Repair Tutorial

I think I will cut the connector out if possible and use this tutorial or maybe cast a different pelvis (Docs look like a better size) with modifications. I like the body being based off the Big Jim model. That is kind of cool. Thanks for the info, Boywonder0! -
Yes it is! I think that from wave 3 and forward they came with this torso to pelvis connector. It would take care of the torso bending forward but the loose legs problem remained there...Sorry to bump an old thread. I just received a couple of Retro Action bodies in the mail, and the waist isn't attached by elastic. There is a plastic "attachment" that joins the pelvis to the torso. Just the legs are attached with elastic. Is this a later design?Leave a comment:

I agree... that would have been a really cool solution to the problem. The rubber pelvis would have also provided a neat take on the old Mego "underoos" thing. The colored undies is one of those silly little things that I really miss in the modern re-Megos.Holy Crap that is it...That would be a perfect fix for all these....or even the rubber type paint process they did for their Black Manta figure from the DC Classics two pack...surely someone know what Im talking about. That would be a huge time saver! I personally love the figure body...it's not Zica (all Hail Craig!) by any means but I like it. Put Robin on a retro and Batman on a Zica/Doc Mego and they look perfect together.Leave a comment:

Hey - That is really so cool that you took the time to post that for everyone. Nice job on the tutorial and "how to". I'm sure many people will find this information useful.
Thanks for sharing it with everyone.

That would take a certain amount of common sense, which they really don't seem to have.Leave a comment:

Its been a while since I put together this tutorial. I have since then learned that any means to coat those joints with a rubbery material will work as well. For instance you may brush thin coats of plasti-dip to accomplish the job or even enamel. Just let dry well.
The retro action body was a very nice body developed by Mattel which resembled a lot to their Big Jim body. They should have pursued for the leg joints the same type of joint they used for the arms but rather went cheap.
Where they really dropped the ball was that the pelvis had no means to exert friction to the attached limbs hence the impossibility to hold a pose. Even Mego molded some rough area at their type I body legs to avoid slippery at the pelvis joint.
Should Mattel had molded a rubbery pelvis, just the pelvis, they would had corrected all their issues...Leave a comment:

Cyanocrylate is the active ingredient in the glue... Krazy Glue, Gorilla and others are the glue brand. Any brand of glue that contains cyanocrylate will be suitable...Leave a comment:

Great tutorial. Really appreciate the time it took to do that.
One general question. What is the best glue to use in general for reMego or Mego repairs? The tutorial says cyanocrylate but that could mean Krazy Glue or Gorilla glue or a bunch of other ones.Leave a comment:

Jase,
Great info.
I learned to give these bodies away, rather than repair. And "upgrade" to a better hybrid/kit bashed body.
But yet, no one was taking them at Mego Eat. LOL.Leave a comment:
