Everyone is talking about using Castaway bodies for their Mattel Retros.
Use Doc Mego's for gosh sakes!
The man was the first to recreate the Mego, and he has had a BIG hand in these Mattel Retros!
The last few times that I even looked at a Castaway body, they didn't even have any in stock anymore.
I even wanted to try their bodysuits awhile back, and they haven't had any for months.
I'm goin' with the Doc!!!

I like having both Doc Mego and Cast-A-Way bodies on hand for the customs I'm doing these days. I think the more different bodies out there, the better. I like to choose the body depending on the character (since not every character has the same kind of build), although sometimes it comes down to which suit fits which body better. I'm looking forward to adding the Zica bodies to the mix as well.

Your post makes a very good point, but I'm keeping the Mattel body and using the gasket insert approach. Even though I have three Casaway bodies on hand, I'm fearful of screwing up the emblems on the extra Batman and Superman that I've got coming in.

Just taking the costume off has the potential to really mess up the emblems, so I've used the 'cotton ball' approach without having to remove the costume.

The one of the main reasons CAW wins out, is the addition of the bigger shoulders & Swivel Biceps.

But Doc does have a new Body coming out with Swivel Biceps(see the BBP Flash Gordon).

Yeah, we wouldn't want Mattel to actually make a body that is worth buying. We should replace them at an additional cost.

I hear what you are saying Rich. I still to this date have not bought any of the retro figures as of yet. I am really on the fence about the crappy bodies that I keep hearing about.

That really sucks and not something we would or should expect from a well known toy company "Mattel" that has been around for several years. They should know better than this.

Not to say that I am never going to buy them. I really do want the heads, suits and other accessories for customs and what not.

On the other hand the positive thing of this if you will is that Doc's Momma didn't raise no dummy. Mattel's big mistake in not listening will benefit Doc in selling more quality bodies for replacements. At least that is my hope anyway.

I am not blaming Doc for anything in any way. I would like to think that he put his best foot forward. After all the EMCE's turned out pretty darn nice. I believe that the bad decision making was left up to Mattel to let these figures pass through Q.C. without given it a second thought.

The CAW bodies are less expensive, ship faster and have the bicep swivel, which is the ultimate determining factor. You can achieve a great deal more heroic poses with the bicep articulation.

You are not alone. I am still a bit leary of Mattel slipping the smart chips into the figures and recording our every move. Aha! I knew it! So that is why Mattel is actually glueing the head in the body. And all this time we were thinking that it had something to do with safety. Mattel is soooooo busted! LOL!!

If I decide to do a body swap I'd just use old LJN swivel bicep bodies in my parts bin instead of shelling out more money.

This plan may have worked.....had it not been for CAST A WAY TOYS to come along with an better replacement body.........maybe I'm wrong.
