I agree. The essence of what it implies is apparent. And overall the figure looks quite good. Now whether the final production figure is stuffed or not remains to be seen. But I won't be put off if it is. I think he's a cool selection for a villain. Well done guys!
I can see this padded suit idea working for a character like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man, but Darkseid's physicality is just so solid (he looks like he's practically made of rock after all), that I don't think the plush suit approach would be effective at conveying that.
Take the Super Powers for example... Darkseid is a hefty and imposing figure compared to pretty much everyone one else in that line.
Picking up a Mego Darseid, you don't expect him to be light and soft and squishy.
I rather like the stuffed suit idea - gives him a nice amount of bulk and mass, and looks like a cost effective solution (I'm curious how the extra padding will impact the figure's articulation). Actually, the bulky suit gives me some ideas for future customs. Can't wait to see the final product (ah, who'm I kidding? I'll likely order two of Darkseid regardless!).
These questions have been answered in the general SDCC thread.
As for the Hulk body, I believe I mentioned that we have one tooled that the guys at BBP are using, and unless Paul hasn't mentioned already, that body will be available for those who insist on having a larger muscled body. However, that's not in this year's plans for Mattel production. So, the suit is padded.
Even with the stuffed suit, I can't say it is horrible. I may have to see the final version to really judge it. If it is stuffed, I hope the gloves and boots are removable. Then I may have to get one of Doc's new large bodies and make a custom using this head and the boots and gloves. (If they will fit, time will tell.) On the other hand, If Doc can make a Large body, why can't Mattel? Still, if stuffed suits is how Mattel will bring us some of these larger characters, I won't mind, better than not getting them! (Penguin anyone?)
