    Zeedox,

I feel ya on the whole "secrets will be revealed" aspect of SDCC and other such manufactured "events." Also, I know DM is gag-ordered into silence, which puts him between a rock (fans) and a hard place (Mattel.) It all reminds me of the Trendmasters unveiling of GODZILLA '98 toys back in the day. Mattel just better hope that in one of their grand reveals, we don't all go "what's this garbage?," and walk away like collectors did with that atrocity.

Of course, I'll be buying whatever the retro line comes out with, but the "suspense" is rather tiring. But maybe that's "half the fun" that is somehow lost on me.

Any new announcement is "new news" until it's announced.. then that news is not new news anymore.. (duh right?) and some people would be interested, and others not. The fizzle dies rather quickly.

With that in mind, SDCC and Toy Fair in Feb., have been the major arenas for years to make these types of "official news" announcements. There are many reason why this is so, but the main one is that media outlets are "primed" to spread the word. And for any company, advertising, and marketing, with maxium exposure for that company's new product makes the most sense for getting bang for buck.

Thus the reason major announcements, like these, are made at SDCC.

      regards,

      g.

Plus - top secret corporate espionage.
If pictures and product lines were leaked to the general public too soon, old women would faint in the street, gangs of rollerskating punks would invade NYC at night, and Azrak Hamway International would raise its dusty corpse from the mouldy earth to ramp up emergency production on Quizzical Woman and Jaguara knock-off toys, clearly cutting into market share.

How would you rather have the figures announced? Or would you prefer no announcement and just have them show up in stores? Just curious as to what an alternative would be.

            1. Show up at store or online
            2. Next week this comes out notice
            3. Show back up or order online
            4. Buy two open one shake the other around and pretend it is real.

Y'know.... sometimes I wish stuff worked like that. By the time something gets to stores it's been announced, modified, nerdalyzed, re-nerdalyzed, the entire production crew has been interviewed, and lists of the next three years worth of stuff presented. Kinda takes the surprise out of it. Or rather, doles out lots of little bits of surprise. (Not the same, really.) I can understand the buildup though: WAY too much money to leave things to chance.

....but it doesn't mean I have to LIKE it....

If Mattel weren't so ridiculously secretive, Dr. Mego could give us all the inside dope we could handle. As far as I'm concerned, we deserve to know first, since we're the fools who've kept the dream alive for nearly FOUR DECADES.

Instead we get doubletalk from shills who act like its Defense Department secrets they hold.

You know how I found out about Mego producing a four level Wayne Foundation playset? I saw it in a Heroes World catalog. Two weeks later, my parents drove to Livingston, NJ and bought it for $30.00. Sometimes, the "good old days" were precisely that.

Let's see somebody today produce a pocket watch accessory like the CA Green Hornet had. They'll be sued by class action scum faster than you can say "yummy lead paint."

Corporate BS + Bad Parenting + Lawyer Scum = no fun collecting anymore.

Isn't this a thread about Wonder Woman?

I know you're both right. And to quote the good ol' Doc: "Loose lips sink ships" and he's right.
BUT, Amazon already knew about wave 3 months ago (I refuse to believe they randomly picked 4 characters). Since then we know Wonder Woman is a certainty, as is Shazam. Somebody leaked that information. Unless that person got fired it would seem "leaking" a little information here and there might not be so bad after all. And if certain information somehow did get out, why not here?
But I know it'll never happen

Yeah, pretty sure that would be in violation of the non-disclosure agreement that everyone has to sign to work on a project and I doubt Dr. Mego or anyone else who is in the know really wants to be sued. Any project, toys, movies, animation, those in charge don't want anyone leaking info.

Furthermore, I can pretty much guarantee the Wayne Foundation was announced at the Toy Fair, there just wasn't internet so you didn't know about it. Were the only ones paying attention. To a lot of people, the first they heard was a page in Previews or ToyFare or whatever a couple of months ago, and to the rest, they found out about them when they suddenly had them at Toys R Us. The typical TRU shopper had the same experience you had with the Wayne Foundation.

I think to pass the time until the announcement, we should just have a show of hands of who thinks the next wave will be exactly as Amazon had it leaked a few months back - Wonder Woman, Cheetah, Flash, Captain Cold. I for one say YES. That's exactly what it will be. So what do you all think? Yes it will be as leaked or no, something different.

I'm very excited to see Flash,Captain Cold,Cheetah,Wonder Woman and even Shazam. I hope Wonder Woman looks good,I always hated the original Mego of her. I hope Shazam has the correct boots that he wore and that his cape is white and not yellow. If there would be a way to get the yellow trim around the cape and the designs too it would be great. Hope Cheetah is the version like the 6" DCUC or Super Friends version. I never cared for the one with the hair.

I'm not sure what wave 3 will be but I'm hoping it will be what Amazon announced. I'm dying to put Flash and Captain Cold on display next to my Green Lantern and Sinestro...and Wonder Woman should indeed be the first female character (with Cheetah as her villian)
