Non-fixed Mattel bodies

I like them too. they are getting a bit pricey if that other thread about price increase is correct, but I still think they are cool toys.

I work with Mattel's bodies LITERALLY every day and I don't think the thighs
are that bad.

The change will happen when it happens based on the realities of production.

I based that on the fact that you said - way back when wave 1 was being discussed - that the issues with the legs would be fixed by wave 2. Here's wave 2 and we still get the same issues with the legs... what am I to think then?

Could be worse. Mattel might have decided to go with the old Space1999/Sunshine Family/Mork/Welcome back Kotter body. Now that would have been a real mess.

OK seriously, is this going to happen EVERYTIME the next wave of RAH comes out? Honestly, some of you are like a bunch of spoiled children. "Its not the way I think it should be so I'm gonna B**** and moan until it is." Gimme a break! A lot of you are capable of great customs anyway, so why complain about something you can make yourself? I thought the whole purpose of this line was to get the kids into something you enjoyed as a child, and get the nostalgia factor on for yourselves. And for those of you who complain about the price, again I point out that you customizers spend almost double that when you consider buying heads, bodies, fabric, accessories, paint, sculpting materials and to get Anthony to make the packaging for you, not to mention shipping for the things that aren't readily available to you. I mean, aren't toys suppose to bring JOY to people? If all you can do is nitpick and criticize, perhaps you should take up a new hobby.

What's your problem with this thread? Paul told us that Mattel said that the bodies would be "fixed by wave two". They aren't fixed for wave two, so this thread came into existence. If they were fixed like we were told they would be, I wouldn't have started this thread. I feel they were deceptive in the rumor that they would make a better product. They have the worst 8" format body being offered. It's just sad...

Yes, you're right...how dare we voice our concerns on an open Forum dedicated to our beloved Megos, and the supposed return of them. and you're right again that we should give up our hobby because your opinion is more valid than ours.
And if these are really made for Kids...why are they called "retro Heroes"?? You seriously don't think they aren't aimed at the Adult Collector market? Really? And Collectors ARE a nitpicky lot...it's our nature.

A little nit picking is harmless nerdy fun.

It's the overly obessive constant angry posts I believe Hardygirl was talking about. You see people just dwell and stew and get so worked up over something that is supposed to be a fun hobby and a distraction from the truly stressful things in life.

If I think a toy sucks, then I say it sucks and life goes on. That's the end of it for me. I've seen collectors get literally consumed with rage over something as trival and silly as a super heroes sideburns were a few centimeters off on a figure. That's not healthy.

In all honesty Werewolf, you've been hopping threads defending this line nonstop, so I'm not seeing any difference in what your doing versus those you are criticizing. What are fans if we can't have a discussion about it, good or bad? I don't like the Batman figure and I'm marking my thoughts in various threads. So what? Those who want them will buy them and those who don't will not. There is really no one to influence when it comes to collecting toys. Everybody has them and collectors get what they want. Discussing it is just part of the process. Enjoy!

Yeah Paul, I remember you saying that any body change/upgrade could not happen in this wave (due to the production realities involved) so I wasn't expecting any difference on the bodies.

Discussions are great and a bit of nerdy nit picking is all part of the fun. It's the obessive anger I believe many of us wonder about. I've seen way too much nerd rage destroy many a good forums. I don't want this to happen to the museum. I love this place.

Now, this is just a general observation of many differnt collector forums I've been to or lurked over the years.

I've seen people take nerd rage to absolute lunatic extremes. It's not just disliking or nitpicking its the absolute seething venomous rage people spew at a toy. The I hate it so it must suck mentality and they don't just say it once or twice. It's over and over post after post thread after thread. Never dropping it. Never letting go. The objects of their love turn into one of hate and they obsess over it.

They want it to fail just because they don't personally like it and the toy maker must be the devil because the some action figure was not personally made to their exact specifications.

It is not normal to get that angry over a toy. I don't care if it is the ugliest toy ever made, that is just not healthy.

There are way too many kool bodies out there for me to sweat Mattels goof. It's the lack of changes from prototype to final product that disappoint me. Why bother with a proto type...mattel obviously knows were gonna buy the figures...our input on these have zero effect on decisions...its a little demoralizing. Slightly bummed out.

I usually stand back and watch two sides battle it out, and I ride the fence, but this time...I have to say pretty dissapointed in the final product. But thats why GOD invented customizers.

You obviously didn't read the last part of that statement. I also said "to get the nostalgia factor on for yourselves." Yes, I know the reason they are called Retro Action Heroes." But again, why do you guys gets so worked up about this sorta thing when you can either customize it yourself or pay someone else to do it for you? And do any of you know what it takes to mass produce a toy or action figure? Paul (Doc Mego) does. I say we are more than fortunate to have the inside scoop about all this stuff, b/c w/o him giving us the behind the scenes stuff, we'd basically be like any other toy consumer out there; clueless until we read it on some site somewhere right before the release date. And b/c we're a priviledged few, you act like if you complain about it enough you'll get what you want exactly when you want it. Yes, Doc relays our concerns to Mattel, and has some input, but that doesn't mean changes will be made b/c the mighty "Mego Museum" demands it. There could be all kinds of reasons why the figures didn't go through the changes. Maybe it wasn't cost effective. They produced all those bodies, and maybe chucking them and starting from scratch just wasn't good business. So again folks, stop actng like spoiled babies and be patient. Maybe the changes will come for Wave 3, maybe not. Wave 1 seems to be selling well, and hopefully Wave 2 will as well. And as always, you the consumer have the power of choice. You can choose not to buy it. But you can also choose not to ruin something that other people enjoy just b/c it's not up to your standards. Or you can choose to be a buzz kill. I for one, am taking the high road.

I understand that but we differ on the last statement. It goes without saying, collectors are a passionate group. Likes or dislikes will be expressed often with a flare towards the extreme. That's a reflection of our passion. I know few who have casual disappointments when anticipating a figure or series. They either really like them or hate them.

Think about it. This line happened because Paul was SO in love with an old toy line, he went to great lengths to speak with toy companies until someone would hear him out. He did his homework, hit his marks in presentation, and found the ear of someone who shared his passion. Now we have this line getting produced and he's in the middle of the product development, which is why he gets his back up when people say negative things about the figures his design team put together (which they really are...lets be honest folks ).

So, yeah, when these things come out and there has been conjecture for months about what they will look like, you've got the passion of this small group of people who designed it clashing with the individual expectations of all of these other collectors. I would expect nothing short of what we are getting. Let people express their passion and move on. It only becomes flammable when you put a match to it.
