i have been putsin around not buyin my Mattel retro figs and still plan to get the ones not releases by Mego.

but today i see this sweet batman on ebay. the costume screams mego yet it is unique and the mask is removanle but looks nothing like mego - it looks like a don post mask (sans the silly forehead emblem)

Thats the prototype. I think it looks cool too, but I'm waiting to see the finished product because I think it will look better.

I had a similar first reaction. The mask looks like a replica of the hard helmet Ideal made in '66.

Not long to go now...that's pretty exciting.

I'm a little puzzled, if not concerned, for the lack of info Mattel is releasing on this figure (like the sample cowl). It appears their faith in this figure, in light of initial comments about the prototype, is lacking. I think it is safe to assume the prototype IS the figure and all early discussions about it being just a "rough draft" may be exaggerated. With Wave One, we were already getting shots of the heads coming out of production, so the "black out" on Wave Two is really speaking loud and clear. I have decided to pull back on my expectations and just wait to see the final product. It's hard to get excited when the company isn't.

Man, I about squirted a little when I saw this thread!...I thought it was the happy day. I also imagine its just a matter of time before he/they are revealed. I have even wondered about what MIB41 has stated as well, especially after the failed attempt that Hasbro had with the removable cowl......and all the discouraging words from folks at DC and DC Direct about making a Batman Removable Cowl and making it look right.
But I have to believe that this one's (cowl) going to be very good(based on the style of the figure(s). There has been nothing said for me to belive that this cowl will look anything like the proto that we've seen and remember, even though we saw the heads ahead of time...we didnt see the finished product of wave 1 until it popped up on ebay!
It is time to see something though for peats sake!!

yeah that's it - the ideal helmet rather than the post mask

                    I like it.
I was hoping the cowl would better match the cape and boots color wise but he looks really good!!!

It would have looked a lot better of they would have just sculpted the mask on the head (non-removable).

This version (shown in the photo) is too chunkie looking
