Another thank you to the Doc

My kids play rough with their toys, so tonight after they went to bed, I was cleaning up and found Mattel GL and Superman under the couch. My first thought was I don't think I've seen an 8" cloth figure under a couch since I played with my original Megos. My second thought was, they've been played with pretty rough, yet still have a "clean" look about them. They don't look like "beaters" from ebay with faded suits or restrung arms. Maybe they'll look different in a few years, but right now my kids are playing with figures, ripped off of the package by their own hands that they can totally call their own. They will have their own memory of going to the store with Dad, hopefully just like when I was at the store with my Mom and discovered WGSH 37 years ago. Thanks.
    It's all good!

Yep, Underdog, that's what it's all about. With all the complaints and the issues involving the release of these figures, in the end they are TOYS, meant to be loved and played w/ by KIDS. And maybe someday, if discussion boards like this are still around, they'll be reliving those memories about going to TRU w/ Daddy to buy them and the games they played and how they cried when they couldn't find them, and then Daddy came to the rescue, and got them out from under the couch!

I too am thankful for his priceless contributions to mego collecting through mattel, EMCE and repro work. I get pretty annoyed at nitpicking posts about style / quality / price / etc when without Doc they have nothing.

        I agree

Yes there's something about running into the toy shop and walking out with an 8" mego-esque toy of your favorite license. I think we are headed to the silver era of this sorta thing.

What you call "nitpicking"...others might call their opinion, or a critique. I really don't understand this mentality of, we'd better not say anything negative, or we'll get nothing...just shut and take whatever Mattel gives you and kiss their Arse!

Even Doc Mego doesn't feel that way, and has said so. As he said "we are the Mego generation", so who else would you go to for feedback? I think he knows how much we appreciate everything he's done to bring Mego back. But as Paul himself pointed out...the Adult Eye is more critical than when we were Kids back in the 70's.

So don't label anybody who has an opinion that isn't the same as yours, whiners or complainers. Just understand it's their opinion.

Glad to hear the kids like them

I come from a big family, as does my wife. I much prefer discussions
without boundaries or editorializing. Say what you want - Mattel and
I have pretty thick skins - we can take it.

All I ask is that the comments be sincere.

Bat - I am certainly not saying everything went right or that it is wrong to complain at all there certainly are problems. Just don't drive it into the ground and be thankful the effort at least. Remember that original megos had some bad sculpts (WW) and poorly thought out costume designs (like oven mits) that we came to love. Mego had quality issues - (knees that collapse while standing or during shipping, greying heads). It is all to be expected. Do I want perfection? certainly. Do expect it? No. It is a question of did you get what you paid for? With these you are paying for a niche nostalgia product. Price point for DC direct's plastic POS es is rediculous and people buy those. Aren't these worth more?

Well, this thread turned a bit from what I was trying to say. I respect everyone's opinion on the figures and am glad that Paul uses our feedback, too. None of the figures that I bought for the kids were in bad condition, so I can only go by the subjectivity of my purchases. I was just saying it is neat to have brand new figures that the kids can rip off the cardboard, bend their arms back (if they want), and I don't have to worry about ruining an original Mego.

they cried when they couldn't find them, and then Daddy came to the rescue, and got them out from under the couch
Sharry, with my kids it is more like. "I'm done playing...Daddy will clean up later." I catch about 50% of that, but the other 50% has me cleaning the living room before bed. lol.

                  Steve

Strangely...I agree with everything just said. And I'm very thankful for ALL Paul's efforts.

Every single person in here, has a passion for megos. We all have our favorites and opinions, but we cannot forget we are a pretty special community who are ALL here for the same reason. I'm relatively new here, especially compared to some, but what I've seen in this forum regarding dedication and passion for the 8 inch, articulated, cloth clothing figure, is inspiring and makes me smile every day.
