Do Super-Heroes sell better than Super-Villains

Based on some of your answers to other posts, it makes me wonder.....

Do superheroes sell better than supervillains?

I would assume so. I tend to buy superheroes. I can't imagine Emce making a mainstream superhero that I wouldn't buy. The villains I'll take or leave on a case by case basis.

Of course they are probably selling a cool Joker for a wave 4 or 5 or 6. They are making smart decisions to keep this line alive.

Yes, heroes definitely sell better than villains. A kid will make up his own villains
or nature diasters or alien menaces to test the hero if no existing foes come
    home with the hero.

So, Doc, will this affect future waves and the characters selected? Personally, I love the Hero/Foe planning of the line so far.

I'm sure Two-Face will sell better, so will the Joker and Catwoman, they're better known villains with more TV exposure

What Doc said. Most kids act out their heroic fantasies by playing with a toy of their hero, or dressing up as the character. Tons of kids have used towels as capes to pretend to be Superman or Batman, for example, as heroes tend to get all the glory, admiration, and kudos from the general public. Heroes are accepted by most, villains get scorn. Heroes usually win in the end, villains lose, and often lose BIG. Most kids want to be accepted, earn the respect and admiration of their peers, etc.

However, villains do tend to get the cooler weapons, and in some cases, costumes! Bad guys tend to be bad ***. Case in point: Darth Maul. Where Jedi have a standard lightsaber, Maul was rocking a double-bladed one! WHOA. Plus, check out that facial tattoo! SCARY!

Villains also get the best hideouts, armies of lackeys, and often hot women in skimpy outfits. See pretty much any James Bond movie for proof.
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

            Heros

The diehard collector will buy them all. Kids are often faced with choices or influence from parents. Parents will say, "you can only have one, or I am not buying that one pick another." It is not that the kids would not but them all but mom and dad are not that into a variety of figures like the collectors.

Batman foes will sell much better then other foes. Joker and Penguin were the best selling bad guys for Mego. These two will sell. I think the big mistake made by Mattel was releasing Two Face so early on. Joker would have been a better choice to push the foes along. I mean the next two waves include Black Manta,Two Face,Cheetah and Captain Cold. We need heavy hitters mixed in here a bit and this is where Joker,Penguin and Catwoman could have been used much better. I have to say I'm a bit shocked Lex Luthor is a peg warmer. I mean he's Superman's arch enemy. I was thinking he would be a hotter seller. I think if they release anymore Superman bad guys it should be Composite Superman. A minor foe yes but who wouldn't buy a figure that is half Superman and half Batman? Kids will love him.

Are all the characters currently packed in even ratios or are there more heroes in a case?

My mom always picked out the villain. She'd go with what looked cooler which was often the bad guy. My first Joe was Destro. My first He-Man was Skeletor. Skywarp was among the first Transformers I got. She didn't know if they were good or bad.

That worked in my favor with Batman, she knew Batman but also thought he was the coolest looking hero. Which he is. (Spiderman a close second)

edit: And Boba Fett! I remember when she picked him out for me at the store. Then we accidently stole him. She gave him to me. I opened him. Then she forgot as she did the rest of her shopping. Then we went home. I remember her seeing it in my hand as we got out of the car. Then she swore quietly to herself and drove back to pay for him. lol.

I love the choices of villains so far! By the end of the year, I'll have 6 villains that Mego never made! Customs are fine, but for me, there's something magic about factory made, available-at-retail figures. It just feels "official", you know?

I loved Mego's Joker, Penguin, and Riddler (thanks for the better fitting suit, Doc!). The only Mego villain I'd love to get re-done is Catwoman, with the purple dress and green cape.

Yeah, I definitely prefer getting the heroes and just making up my own bad guys. But I do want a decent Catwoman (Julie Newmar style). I never did like the Mego version.

Lots of interesting comments and thoughts.

If villains sell less I would have thought they'd make less villains per case than heroes. But maybe once you turn on the "make a villian" machine that is just simpler to make equal quantities.

I think they were smart to hold off on Joker. The idea is that they could have just put out any villian and because we've been waiting for this for X-many years they could afford to pick an usual figure like Two Face. Plus I think they wanted to go with a new figure that we haven't seen before. Because they know we'll buy a Joker when it's eventually made they are ensuring the longevity of the line.
