Anyone buy any figures that they didn't immediatley love just to "collect them all"?

I personally love buying the superheroes. A little less so the supervillains.

I'm tempted to get the supervillains just cause there's a part of me that just likes getting the new Mego figures. Part of the reason I think these waves are so paintfullly far apart is that so we don't pick and choose which figures they want.

I think there's an unwritten pact which states: We were nice enough to make these new figures. So, don't be difficult...support the line and get all 4 of them.

    Thoughts?

There is no unwritten pact - if you don't want a figure, don't buy it.

The waves are set to the seasons - spring, summer, fall. It feels
    so painful because of antici...................pation.

It really feels like a life time between waves. I think toy lines (not just this one) do better by spreading out the toys...doesn't make sense of course to put out too many figures out at once. Makes people pick and choose. Makes more sense to give them a little taste as opposed to an entire meal.

I also think it's cool how they doing a combo of new version of old toys and introducing figures that were never made "back in the day".

Was reading one of the Mego books and it said one of the reasons that the old Mego crew wanted to go with superheroes is that beacause no/little advertising was needed.

I wonder how people find out about these new toys who don't follow websites like this one or the various toy magazines. I happened to stumble upon them. And have since spread the word to many of my pals. But it seems like one of the difficult takes is getting the word out to people (like me) who are a little out of the loop.

PS....this post is into intended as a crticism...i really can't think of any toy purchase I made in the last couple of decades that has given me as much joy as these new retro-heroes.

I'm not a huge Superman guy... I wanted Lex though because I thought he was a cool villain. I ended up getting a Superman because I wanted to pick all four up at retail, and I was interested in what changes had happened with the suit, especially the cape decal.

So - I got a Superman I wasn't too into (cool fig, not knocking it) for retail completionism, but conversely I didn't get a Green Arrow that I would have been more into because it's hard for me to support exclusives.

That's interesting. I would have thought everyone would get a Superman.

Why don't you like exclusives? I sorta figure there a way to make more figures for the fans that wouldn't necessarily be financially viable in other venues. And for someone like Green Arrow, what villain would they pair him with?

(Having said that some of those Star Wars exclusives were just painful. But for a smaller, scrappy toy line like this, whatever they need to survive I kinda understand.)

The regular set is more exclusive to me then Green Arrow.

Anyway, should I ever see these in stores I'll likely get Sinestro and Lex. Green Lantern I wanted so badly I got him from BBTS. Superman I'm interested in seeing up close but he's not the priority because I have two 8" Mego Supermen and one 12".

Batman I'll always get because Batman and Robin are the focus of my collection in general. Its always about those two for me. Two Face is just awesome so I'll get him. Plus he fits in the Bat collection. If they give us a Robin I'll be a happy camper.

I have a hard time caring for Aquaman...I'll wait till I see him up close.

Flash I'll get because he's another character I love. Wonder Woman I'll buy two of. One for me and one for my friend Arlene who is a Wonder Woman in her own right. I don't really care if I get the bad guys to match them.

I've bought two of each so far... 3 of the Supermans. If I could find more Supermans, I'd buy them too.

I like the new bodies. I like the head sculpts. I like the new outfits. I just plain like Superman. So, win-win-win-SUPERwin for me.

I'll buy them all, because quite frankly I'll kick myself in the butt for not buying them all in a few years, and with the whole kicking yourself in the butt thing, and me getting older... I really don't want to have a hip replaced because I attempted to kick myself in the butt.

Well it's a business choice, I get that.
The financial is one reason... shipping, mark-ups, etc and pricing structure that's needed for shorter runs to turn profit is a turn-off at my wallet.
Psychology is the other. I'm not saying it isn't useful that GA is pulling triple (brick and mortar) retail prices on ebay, because honestly that does drive the speculators out to purchase additional figures in the line, and that drives sales. I'm sure the frenzy helps the line, I'm just not thrilled by it for me. I'd be interested in reading about any hard data or studies on that actually, but that's different from my purchasing habits.

I think if Matty released GA at retail, he'd have done fine and sold well. I'm not singling Matty out of course - as you say Hasbro is really pretty ruthless about exclusives. My nieces collect Littlest Pet Shop like whoa, and you want to talk nightmare short-packs, pack-ins and chase exclusives?

I get that... I know I'm dealing entirely from my own largely arbitrary provincialism. But really, I would think eBay would be the great equalizer in which all is available, no?

I wasn't gonna get a lex as i hate the character and he's been so overused in the last 2 decades as to drive me nuts. however since my local TRU sold out of superman and still have lex i my get him until i find a supes. i just won a sinestro on ebay with shipping under $15. woooo hooo yeah!

The next set i'll get them all and if that 3rd set is accurate i'll do the same for it.

                      i have them all.
i didnt care for the boots so i replaced them with regular hero boots.
i like the line overall but may have to start picking the ones i like as opposed to collecting them all.

No...I don't plan to "collect them all". I do own GA & all the Wave 1 Figures...but will only be buying Twoface & Aquaman from Wave 2.

I may buy a Batman for customizing, if the Costume fits better than the Prototype.

I immediately loved them all, so no. I finally got all 4 retail figures, now I just hope I can get a couple Green Arrows for me and my son. I intend to buy every figure they put out simply for the fun of playing with them.
