Hey Doc. Please don't hold back any info regardless of how well it's going to be received. I'm positive no one meant it as a slam to you. I have to admit that the reason given by Mattel (via you) does sound a little lacking. By that I mean that it doesn't sound like a big enough reason for a huge company like Mattel not to make a slight change in blister size to accomadate a more accurate and popular version of one of their potentially most successful figures in this line. It's just hard to believe that would be their only reason. It would be much easier to believe if it were coupled with one or more reasons for not doing the ears longer. Looking forward to seeing the actual product though!!

So does this mean Hawkman will never be made because his helmet may not fit the blister? Or a taller character even like Plastic Man? I really think Mattel needs to re-think things a bit before killing the idea of doing something.

Hasbro did make Chewy and Darth Shorter to fit in the first wave of the modern 12" collection they did (in 97?).

and Mego made Robin taller to utilize the same body as the other heroes.

The size of Bats ears will have as much impact on sales as the size of Supes chin, regardless of how much cooler it would look.

For a company as big as Mattel and with their amount of experience an issue as small as a blister not fitting shouldn't even be a problem at all

I told you what I was told - what annoys me is the implication that I made
              something up.

For whatever reason, the decision was made not to make the blister
              larger to accomodate certain figures.

I don't expect everyone to cheer at the explanation, but I don't expect
              such angst over it either.

That's really cool to hear that there was even consideration for a removable helmet Manta!!!!

Did it even get to the prototype stage? That would be awesome to see some day if it was in terms of the "could have been's".

Although getting a Manta in the first place is good enough news!

The beauty of the 8'' format, If you don't like it, fix it. I am sure if the line does well, they may implement different bodies, as well as blisters and such, remember series 2 has not even hit yet. This line is in it's infancy. until then, suck it up, and customize.

I don't think anyone reading what you said Paul was thought to be making something up. Just the reasoning from mattell seams goofy, to use a polite word. Who creates a toy to fit a package? goofy. Its not a slam on you Paul. We understand how close you are to this project, and everything that is deemed "wrong" seems to be thrown on your back, but its not your monkey to carry.
This is on Mattel, not you, this is not personal, and nobody thought you were making stuff up. You are allowed to say so little as it is, why would anyone think you made anything up.

                      Good luck with your line.

New blister=new tooling=more cost. Bigger companies are notorious for beancounting.

Size of ears? I'm just happy that a new Batman is being made!!! I have only seen Black Manta on the superfriends, so what does he look like under the helmet? This makes him more exciting cause we can customize that head into a helmet.
