    So Many Mego Knock Offs

I've seen so many Mego Knock Offs

I've seen DC Super Heroes Silver Age Collection. That set included Batman, Aquaman and Green Lanter.

I've seen a Target Guardian of Gotham Exclusive with Batman and Bruce Wayne.

I've seen Marvel Signature Origin Series with Spiderman and Daredevil.

Those series and so many others have attempted to tap into the Mego market. They have been similar sizes. They have also been cloth figures. They have also gone for a retro vibe.

Yet, none of those capture the Mego magic.

How come these new "Retro" figures work so well and those other failed?

The 8 inch format versus the nine... the brilliant consulting work Doc Mego has done with Mattel (as best as they'll listen).. and thirty something's like me who experienced the magic 30 years ago and still get the sparkle in my eye everytime I see my Mego Superman keeping a watchful eye on his brand new (and surely up to no good) arch nemisis, Lex Luthor. The magic of real play never fades away.

Wow I almost sounded like some kind of wacko, philosopical nut. I'm not though. Just a Mego Dork, didn't you see my title?

The original Mego's all have a sort of innocent look to them. Even the bad guys. I think Mattel's retro line has managed to catch that and replicated it. They fit in nicely with the originals.

With the Famous Covers, they all looked like they were on steriods or just taking large...umm dumps. DC 9 had a similar problem. (Except Green Lantern who looked pretty cool). Its the scowly face that does them in I think.

The 1" difference definitely has something to do with it

The DC stuff had way better sculpts and a more realistic body than the FC's did. The FC's had Rob Liefeld pinhead syndrome with some sort of screaming issue.

The new Mattel figures work only because of Doc's involvement. They are his children. We are their uncles and aunts. There's a personal connect that the previous lines didn't have.

This is why we applaud Cast A Way's Captain Action, and many dismissed Playing Mantis's try (although Playing Mantis was closer to the original). It's a personal connect nothing else can match.

I think the DC 9inchers and Famous Covers Worked just fine ... Didn't Famous covers have over 30 figures ? You can Also Stand, and Pose them just fine and no 1 is hunched over bull legg'ed either.

Both Green Arrow and Hawkeye can pose thier Bow's with both hands on your shelf, and you don't have to switch out a body to do so. And this is with figures over 10 yrs old too.

All the DC 9incher's have fantastic Sculpts.
Most customizer's have been using them in the 8inch formate for yrs as well.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

always trading for Hot Toys Figures .
