    Retro Lex Review....

Okay so I got my new Retro Lex in on Friday. Considering all the pros and cons (and it seems to be more of the later) everyone's been going on about I figured I'd offer up my thoughts on the new Mego's, for what they're worth...

    1. I like his look- He really fits in nicely with my real megos. You can hate all day long but scale, costume and sculpt wise, he looks great next to Mego Superman. Plus having a hunk of Kryptonite is fun.

    2. The thighs are too thick- His legs do appear to be as if they were made for a different figure. My wife made reference to how the thunder thigh aspect reminded her of the old "Teela" action figures from the original MOTU line. Perhaps Mattel has a thing for juicy legs? Still not too noticeable when displayed out of the package.

    3. The stringing seems a little iffy- Mine stands fine and poses well but I can tell with prolonged play (and probably not much) the body will get loose.

    So in conclusion...

I really put some thought in on this. Loving the originals as I do I almost felt like a traitor buying one of these "new" Megos. However my analytical spin doctor mind kicked in and rationed that for $19.99 MSRP these are a fair deal. You figure the value of a 1975 dollar to today's cash and there isn't much difference in price. Also if you've ever bought or built a custom you know the price ends up normally being way more than the $19.99. So in the end...

    1. No they are not MEGO's- Not better. Not worse (well maybe the legs).

    2. Yes they match up well next to the original's as far as look and scale. The MSRP is a fair price even if the limited distribution at retail kinda sucks.

    3. The new never before released as an original WGSH character is worth picking up. I don't really care for the "replacements" such as the new Superman. I'm perfectly happy with the old. However if your a completest that's an extra $20 a pop to have a complete set.

And there you have it. My thoughts for whatever they are worth. Hopefully they can help you make a better educated buying decision.

At first I thought the kryptonite was cool.....but Lex can't really hold it or do anything with it. I think you did a nice job reviewing Lex! Costume is fine for me...the colored hands are a lil annoying here toy...because I wanted to swap out his retro duds for a suit. My biggest problem is the legs and body which even crush my desire to customize.

Good review. And at the end of the day - the new figures are never going to find that level of nostalgia that makes us all so happy when looking at an old Mego. That being said, I agree that the completely new figures - like a Lex, Sinsetro or GL - can find a place standing along side your treasured Megos.

Yeah I got my superman the other day all in all I really liked it, Yeah it has some problums but for the price and the look over all it is pretty nice.
I will buy more. I actually liked the head sculpt to be honest.
I know some were disopointed but it has charm to it in my opion.
So I look forward to the batman a lot. Going to buy Lex this week.

No need to panic. If you don't like the body and you intended to customize it anyway then why not put the head on a Doc Mego body. Colored hand problem solved as well as body problem solved.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

I think he meant to use the Mattel bodies for making customs out of.

Based on what he wrote, that doesn't seem to be the case:

If that's true, then why would he want to use them for customs?

Why not ask him? Maybe he wants to use the body he paid for for something instead of throw it away like others are doing? That's my guess.

I honestly don't care what he wants to use the body for.

He made a complaint, I offered a solution.

Besides, you know you could sell the body on Ebay.

But back to the Lex review: Good review jimsmegos and very fair! And how cool that we're finally getting a chunk of Kryptonite?

                    Throw it away?

If you have ever been to Mego Meet, you would realize that no one here
                    ever throws ANYTHING away.

Mego fans are the definition of pack rats.

I've read too many "destroyed the body to get the head off" threads and others have said they threw the bodies away. That's why I started my "trade t2 for Mattel bodies" thread. I hate to see people throw them away. Bad for the planet!

Good point! I NEVER throw anything away! You never know when you could use bits and pieces. I guess I feel like keeping Mattel bits with Mattel bits...so I thought I would customize Mattel/Mattel. I didn't realize the bodies would have the issues they are having. I also keep hearing that it is difficult to swap heads without crushing the bodies etc. I haven't purchased one of Doc bodies yet...but I might just go that route. His accessories made me like GA so much more despite the body issues....All this talk of customizing...I might just go try a boil and pop head swap!

That's the truth! I had originally thrown away the "thunder Thighs" in my workshop Trash Can. But for some reason I can't explain...I felt compelled to dig them out, and put them in my Parts Box. I don't know why...I HATE them...but I can't throw them away.
