The same reason why you wouldn't necessarily do Billy Batson with round pupil-less eyes. When you translate a 2-D ink drawing into 3-D Mego figure that can stand with the rest of the figures, how do you stay true to the INTENT when an exact translation won't quite work. Looking at Beck's supposed source material above, I think Beck was meaning to depict a squint, not eyes fully closed. I could be wrong though, maybe he did have his eyes closed!

Maybe look to Ordway or Ross for an alternative design that still holds true to Beck's design. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Considering how all the Mattel figures seem to be loosely based on a "Superfriends" template, I envision the Captain Marvel figure looking closer to the Filmation animated design, similar to how Superman has that Filmation/Superfriends head sculpt.
And quite frankly, it's not THAT bad a look.

Yea, I saw that, but considering I was discussing the head sculpt, I figured as long as he has a head, good enough.
But now that you mention it, with Mego's history of 2 left hands, or 2 left feet.... if Mattel followed suit in forgetting hands, would that be TOO much like Mego?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
