alot of the 70's comics included 50's reprint stories so I suspect they made sure the styles mated

memebr AQUATROY makes a head like that (and aweseome filmation GL and superman too)

I never liked the squinty eyed appearance he had. It always made me think that he was either blind or sleepwalking.

Why'd they draw him like that anyway? Everyone else had their eyes open.

Yea, I saw that, but considering I was discussing the head sculpt, I figured as long as he has a head, good enough.

But now that you mention it, with Mego's history of 2 left hands, or 2 left feet.... if Mattel followed suit in forgetting hands, would that be TOO much like Mego?

I think he should have hands!

Maybe look to Ordway or Ross for an alternative design that still holds true to Beck's design.

The same reason why you wouldn't necessarily do Billy Batson with round pupil-less eyes. When you translate a 2-D ink drawing into 3-D Mego figure that can stand with the rest of the figures, how do you stay true to the INTENT when an exact translation won't quite work. Looking at Beck's supposed source material above, I think Beck was meaning to depict a squint, not eyes fully closed. I could be wrong though, maybe he did have his eyes closed!

The one thought that I have about it is, what intention did CC Beck have in drawing Captain Marvel's eyes like that? I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to depict him with his eyes actually closed, but as a visual shortcut for squinting. So translating that to more naturalistic 3-D, I don't think you would actually have the head sculpt with his eyes closed, but with a kind of smiling, squinting look.

Yep. It's Troy's. I grabbed almost all the ones he put up in the marketplace a few months back. I think I have every mainline character he does. Still have a few to finish.

I'd like to see Shazam's suit made like the original figures.

It might be incorrect, but it's what I grew up with so I count it as legit.

For the head, i'd hate to see one made too comic-ish ... He wouldn't fit in with the other heroes.

"Cartoony" or not...it looks like the SHAZAM pictured on towels, watches,
etc....i.e. "merch" from the Mego era...so that's why I prefer it to look that
    way.

Maybe other DCU characters didn't look as cartoony, but that's not
what is going through my head with all this talk about
which way MATTEL should go with their line...all I'm thinking about is
what I would have ideally preferred from the mid-70s when I originally
saw Megos as opposed to how the Megos actually looked.

This wouldn't be an issue with a "Mego replica"-based line,
but (as I mentioned before) since they are "re-inventing the wheel" here
I'd say the floodgates are open for an idealistic perspective on how
    the retro-based figures should look.
