I look at it like this - Mattel has brought back Mego's with their own signature body design, which they should. The head is perfect and the outfit makes the Mego version look pitiful by every measure. Mattel made the essentials of the Mego figure then improved on much of the rest. What is even better, they made it so you can put the head and outfit on other bodies if you so choose. I mean, isn't that the kind of versatility that makes this a win/win for everyone? I would say Mattel did an AWESOME job.

Nope...I have a bigger appreciation for original toys the way they were manufactured. The reason I like the way the Mattel figures look is the clunkyness of the figure. It reminds me most of the old Mego T1 doll. I dont want that perfect anatomy look to my toys ala DC Directs figure statues. The Mego T1 figure happens to be my favorite toy because it looks like a toy and feels like a toy. I love oven mitten gloves and larger than the head removable mask and smiles on my dolls face. Hope this explains my post.

Interesting point. I happen to love T1 Megos as well. That may be why I find the flaws in the Mattel GA as charming.

I appreciate your post and now understand pretty intently why you
            like the new Mattel bodies...

            Still, you saying...

I have a bigger appreciation for original toys the way they were manufactured.

sounds like what I said earlier...

            what is the simple truth...
            JUST LIKING THE MATTEL BODY

I guess it's merely semantics but that's why I questioned
your original post in the first place.

I disagree. Green Arrow has always been a popular Mego for collectors and this one was produced only on a limited basis. It wasn't mass produced to saturate demand and then get marked down after gathering dust on pegs. Fans who second guessed their purchase or didn't know about it at all, will be hungry for it when the others come out later this year.

Ok, here's a thought that probably been brought up before....if Mego had never gone out of business, would they still be producing the same Body today? Or...would they have improve it?

I think they would have evolved.

From all the opinions and the many examples I have seen and heard out there. I will probably replace mine with a Dr. Mego body when it gets here. I don't want to have a bull legged Green Arrow with funky hips and my other figures looking different.
More custom Mego madness on Facebook right here...

I do appreciate hearing everyone's comments and opinions on this subject.
It's great to see this much discussion without a flare up!

Mattel could have taken the easy out and done what other companies
                                have done - make a super-articulated - 1,001 poses - action figure that
had little in common with a vintage MEGO. But they shrove to balance their
own company style with the charm of a mego.

Ultimately the decision is up to the management of Mattel based on the
input of their designers and outside consultants like EMCE, but I just wanted
to say that a lot of effort went into this project and I hope you can balance
your views with respect for that effort.
