    Stupid Question....

WHY ?.......Superman and Green Arrow....when I already have a MEGO Superman and Green Arrow.......I will buy them for my collection, but they will NOT replace the original Mego's....these will have to go on another shelf...the NEW Mattel figures shelf.......

Because Superman is Iconic and has always been a great seller for DC most kids want to be Superman....Plus Superman was one of the original Megos to be released what better way to usher in the New era of Mego like toys with a Modern updated version.

Green arrow was one of the Better looking Megos and a fav of mine it's nice that they chose one of Megos best figures for the first wave..

The EMCE Star Trek figures appear to be selling quite well even though most are reproductions. Not everybody has a complete Mego collection but may get drawn into it by these figures. Maybe even KIDS!

My guess is they had to go with what DC told them.

Besides, Superman and GA don't look exactly like the old ones, Supes looks even better now if you ask me

I would guess they went with Superman because he is iconic - one of the anchors of the DC Universe. Updated the figure, so while many of us have a Mego Supes in our collection, we won't stay away from the figure because it is an exact duplicate. I would also think they chose him for marketing purposes. I assume we are not the sole target customer of Mattel on these figures. Also looking to attract new collectors and let's hope kids. So put in the big names with the expectation that it will increase sales. Obviously, I'm just guessing here - not in this industry so don't know how it ultimately works. All that being said, I guess a lot of what I said wouldn't apply to GA (who I personally love.) I think Doc Mego commented on the selection of GA before and indicated that you may never know the ultimate reason why each figure is selected for a wave.

It would be suicide to make a line without adding the biggest characters. You're limiting yourself to established Mego Collectors that way and we can't make this fly by ourselves.

I think these are considered high interest characters in the 8 inch format. If these don't sell, they won't give any of the others a chance. Of course they WILL sell, so I have no doubts we'll be doing some serious buying in 2010!

What if Star Wars restarted in 1995 and hit the shelves with Grand Moff Tarkin, Uncle Owen, and no Luke? You've got represent the classic, already produce character for new fans. And reissuing new versions of the same characters is industry standard now anyway.

You have to assume that new collectors and kids are going to want a Superman to go with their Lex Luthor. An original Mego Superman is inaccessible and cost prohibitive to many who will hopefully buy the new figures.

You can let your kids beat the heck out of a new supes, but probably not so much with a vintage one. Like others said, he's an iconic figure and anchors the line nicely.

This pretty much sums it up. If Mattel only thought Mego collectors were going to be buying these they would not be making this commitment. They need to move way more figures than the Mego collecting community could ever dream of buying.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

The only way they'd go with lower numbers is if they declared the line (like the new MOTU line) a limited edition, with clearly smaller production runs, but with such popular/recognizable characters as WGSH, the only reason someone would declare ANYTHING with them in it as a limited edition would be if they thought the over all format (8" cloth covered figures) had limited appeal. Since we're at least starting out in brick and mortar stores (as opposed to MOTU's online only), then SOMEBODY at Mattel has some faith in us. To test that, the Green Arrow is being released ONLINE only first perhaps with enough time in between to adjust production numbers??

                              Keeping fingers crossed.

Would love to know what "expectations" that Mattel execs have that we have to meet for this to be successful to THEM.
