Mattel Mego commercials to go with figures

Hopefully Mattel has enough insight to do some commercials for this new incarnation of Worlds Greatest Superhero. (At least if they are going to be marketed to children of course). I know when the new Evel Knievel toys came out, there were no commercials but I knew about them (obviously because I'm a collector and knew they were out). But most friends of my kids had no idea about them until they were over at our house and became and instant hit. And these were marketed more toward collectors.

Not everyone is looking in the areas in which we look and may not know, even though their kids would like them. Publicity is very key to this kind of stuff. When a kid says, I want that, Mommy and Daddy go find it for them. Remember those old Mego commercials? I sure do. They got me wanting them and wanting more when I had some.

I know Marty is a mastermind when it comes to promotion, so I hope he weighs in on it and they take his advice.

I agree. When you think about Mego, the commercials are as loved as much as the figures, so I hope Mattel does set aside some marketing expense for this as well. Heck they could sell the commercials on DVD to recover their freakin' cost! H*ll you could have special edition figures with the commercials on disc included! Lots of ways to make money here.

I guess a lot depends on how Mattel perceives the bulk of their target audience. Is it primarily a nostalgic adult collectors line (like the recent He-man classics launch) or is it a general audiences/kids line which just happens to be styled in a very familiar (to some) retro way (which will attract some adult collectors and some parents who are feeling nostalgic while buying for their kids? Or maybe a bit of both?

Given the size and resources of Mattel (to say nothing of their deep pockets), I'm sure they have researched this (the cliche focus groups etc..) but it's just that WE'RE not officially in the loop .... yet anyway! LOL!

I volunteer as an actor for the commercial.

I'll wear a diaper and do the commercial in a Baby Huey voice.

Actually, I've seen quite a few TRU exclusive toys get commercials. They usually end with "you can get it, but only at Toys R' Us!"

              So maybe we'll get some!

Mattel / TRU should have contests for YouTube submitted faux commercials after each wave (so we have the actual figures in hand of course) with the winners getting a case of the NEXT wave for free. Or they could buy 30 seconds of Superbowl time and the winner gets a million bucks and their commercial shown during the big game.

I thought the point was to get people to buy the figures.

A faux commercial contest! Yes! Warner did it for the action figures that appeared in the movie WATCHMEN, and I´m still angry I had no idea until the contest finished...
