What Joe threw out into teh 'nets (which he might wish he hadn't now) was just the statement that Mattel was looking at retro style packaging (specifically off-register printing and weathering effects at the edges of the artwork).

It sounds cool to me. It sounds like it may also appeal to parents, specifically looking for toys that aren't covered in blood and serrated knives on chains and women in bikinis (thank you Spawn), Because it underscores the nostalgia of the idea of Mego Innocent as it had been coined.

That someone could be in a store and mistake a printed object for one that has been physically kicked around and crushed under tractor trailers, pack-ins all-a-stolen, sounds more like The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat to me. It's hard for me to see and understand as a valuable threat. To be sure, it may happen - but my argument was that it seemed more likely an anecdotal situation, certainly not something to make or break a line over.

Oh and wait- wait!! ---> purely for the friendly sarcasm
    YouTube - Open-mindedness

Not what I am getting at.
I don't think anyone would think they have come up on a cash of toys that are 30 year old stock suddenly reappearing on the shelves. If they did, they would sell OUT All them gramma toy speculators from the 90s would be in full force.

No, I am saying Joe Parent might think the item is last years model that didn't sell because it did not appeal to kids. I am thinking Indiana Jones here. Something that has been warming the pegs and moved around so much that it is getting a bit ragged, but is not on clearance so the price seems high for something that kids are not into. Not all parents/gift givers are toy savvy. Many of them just want to know 'what does it do?' and if they don't see it holding a kids attention for more than 5 minutes will pass on it.

I would also like to reiterate that personally, as a collector, the idea of weathered packaging does not appeal to me. As a parent buying these for my kids (which I most certainly will) it has no impact.

I am also very happy to see more hero toys on the shelves that do not have guns, knives, or blood on them. May there be many more to come.

As far as what these figures will be packaged in (the bubble) ... I'd prefer they were done like the regular old Mego bubbles and not have resealable clamshells.

    I'm not a fan of resealable cards/bubbles for a few reasons ....

    1. They add to the price.
    2. They add bulk to the size of the whole package for storage.
    3. 75% of the people who buy these are going to crack them open and swing out the cards and bubble anyway.

I'd like these as cheap as possible -- so people CAN collect them all.
Not having resealable clams is a start in the right direction, imo

Yes! I'm so pumped to see "new Megos" on retail shelves, it's just killing me. I'm certain my wife can't wait for this day to come so I will shut up.

AMEN! I'll be submitting mine the day they come out. Question - Is TRU putting out Green Arrow this Fall first as an exclusive? I wonder if he's the test figure for Mattel to see how he sales...
I think Green Arrow is going to be a Matty Collector exclusive this fall, if I read the info correctly. Then the rest come out early spring 2010.

I can just imagine myself knocking small children over after seeing the WGSH out of the corner of my eye in TRU. Heck, I can imagine knocking MY children over to get to them!

It will certainly make a nice display, some nice fresh cards in cases(boxes would be great), but I too prefer loose, so looks like two will be bought, one in the cabinet, and one in a acrylic case.

I would bet it's going to be a sealed bubble. I suppose I would really prefer a OG Mego Style Box that can be opened and closed, as opposed to a card that will be damaged permanently if opened.

So lets get this right, if the card will be "weathered", does this mean there will be no clam, but a sealed bubble?

That's not what I am getting at Lonnie, you are totally welcome, just be cool that's all and that's goes for everybody. You may not see it but you can come off a bit aggressive when you post and i think what you percieve as attacks stem from that perception. Let's all not fall into that easy trap.

You are passionate and come off as curt sometimes on the boards which can lead to misunderstanding but I've met you and found you a nice, rational person so I know we can make this work in a digital form. And you're right, some people don't know you and that can work to disadvantage but that works itself out over time. I want this be a fun place and we're all capable of that.

Well I'm all behind Mattel and I can't wait to see what they've done. With the successful team working around them I fully believe and will support this line without exception. I will be in the stores taking pictures as soon as the first display pops up. It's historical for all the right reasons and I think Mattel will sale the daylights out of those figures. If I like the figure I will will be buying plenty of each. But Lonnie, you got to let the grudge go here. This is a terrific community of people, not to mention very talented, educated, and very giving. I think any point your attempting to make is only getting buried under your defensive responses. Just let it go and think of the greater good of the community that will be buying this product. We're here to support the cause and the hobby that goes with it. By the way, I LOVE Anthony's work and would often take his rendition of a box over the official edition. He's a tremendous asset to this community and someone I hold in high regard as a member of this board and as a person.

How is it ironic? It doesn't seem to fit the definition.
    Last word:

Irony is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance between what one says or does.
The irony is you go to the dictionary to look up the word ignorant and yet misspell words left and right. The dictionary serves 2 purposes....1) for definitions of a word and 2) for the spelling of a word.

But anyway this is getting senseless and has no point in a toy discussion.

Seriously though Lonnie, I've noticed in several threads that you're pretty passionate about the topic(s) at hand and I think it's beginning to rub people the wrong way. Nothing wrong with an opinion and believing what you believe but you're taking this stuff waaayy too personal when people just don't agree with you. And apparently you can't see the other side of the coin but you expect everyone to side with your view. Believe what you believe or how you want to spin it but you did say
I think some of you are ignorant
. Now you may think that's not name-calling but it is in a way.

Anyway, before this exchange becomes really heated and the thread is removed, I'm done...you buy what you buy and want to support and others will do the same and we'll see how this all shakes out in 2011, if Mattel decides to go beyond the 4th wave.

    Peace out!
