A few EMCE at Toy Joy

While traveling through Austin this past weekend, I stopped at my favorite toy shop and they had a few Mugatu and Lt. Uhuras hanging about.

I'm hoping some of my fellow MM friends that live in and around Austin can attest to the awesomeness of this toy shop. If not they have a virtual tour on their website.

Anyway, I was excited to see some EMCE in the wild and snapped a pic with my mobile talkie device, enjoy.

What was the fabric they were displayed on? Looks kinda like a Romulan pattern.

I could spend a lot of $$$ in there! (If I had any!)

Too many toys. Not enough space!

I did not know that Texas was in the neutral zone.

It does look sorta Romulan! Nice catch. It was just a black fabric with the little silver discs. How funny! They also had some (EMCE) hanging around the other Trek merchandise on the wall, this just looked like a nicer photo op.

I wish I had more money, there was a tone of stuff I would have left with on this trip, but I had a limit.

It's not too widely known, but we are sandwiched between the United Federation of Planets and Romulan Star Empire. Sort of a outer rim territory for all sorts of weird aliens.

Toy Joy is a fantastic mecca of all things play. Great place for cool toy finds and your hello kitty fix as well. Plus, they are the only local shop with wind up Goji!! Yes.

When I ordered my first set of EMCE from the local comic shop, they went ahead and priced them, I think they were getting ready to sell them out from under me, LOL.

I was in there about 2 weeks ago. Did you see the BioTron figures over by the ice cream stand? 60 bucks.... I almost bought it.
Don't be sorry. How would you know? You've been watching MTV all your life.

I missed those, I did see some sweet 12 to 14 inch vinyl Godzillas and a vinyl Shogun Warrior. Plus I was actually surprised to see the Batman vs. Clayface two pack and the Superman version as well. I really didn't expect to see those there.

                      Hey rche,

I live just outside of San Antonio, right down IH 35, Austin is about an hour and some change away depending on traffic. How about you?

Have you ever been to Annas Toy Depot on South Lamar? Or Terra Toys on
Anderson? Both highly suggested next time you do a little run in Austin. Anna does resale, you never know what you might find in her shop. It is always fun to take a look tho. Terra Toys does not quite have the Bandai goji thing going on, but they do have a big table full of trains and another full of Playmobil that you can play with in the store. Uh, I mean that you and your kids can play with. um yeah.

                        have a good time

I haven't been to either one of those shops, thanks for the tips I'll check them out. I used to make more trips to Austin than I have recently. My son and I used to go to the Collectables Show at the Crocket Center, and before that it was held in a small arena, I forget the name. Have you been to these shows, I think they are the same, just moved to a different location? I used to love making that trip for the show, but I haven't heard if they are still doing them.

The toy and collectables was at the city Coliseum and the original Palmer auditorium for a long time. Also used to host citywide garage sales there. Both of these are are gone now. I think someone hosts a citywide garage sale at the Dell Diamond baseball park, but not sure on that one. The toy show was also absent for many years - maybe 4 or 5, but they did one just before summertime this year. I am not sure how successful it was as I found out about it a week after it happened. Hopefully it will come around again.

Not much that I know of in the way of vintage toys in SA anymore either. There is one shop off of the 410 on the north side of town, but I can't remember the name offhand. They had a 12" spidey in the box last time I went by (January, I think). Most of the ma and pa things seem to have gone by the internet wayside.

Oh, there is another shop worth checking on in Austin. John at Hog Wild used to have a tremendous collection of things for sale. He now concentrates more on vintage furniture, but still has a little corner of goodies at his shop on 53rd street.

Man -- I might have to go back to Austin and visit my niece (yeah right) so I can check out these other shops.
