The arms and legs of the EMCE Toys (and Dr. Mego) bodies are solid PVC
so they are more sturdy. I have played around with cutting the arm
mid-bicep, drilling a small hole on each side, and inserting a headless
12 inch knee pin (made of ABS) in one side to give the figure swivel
biceps.
The problem with the swivel bicep is that it doesn't increase poseability
enough and it makes you want to make the legs swivel too.
The way to resolve the cracking chest is to pick up some ABS glue.
Testors makes a bottle of clear glue with a brush applicator that
works great on my ABS torsos.
First I am with you Tbolt I agree it is annoying when the body splits or the tension on the bands makes your dudes arm pull down through the torso.
but IMO I gotta weigh the pros and cons.
1. Vintage body parts to cobble together aint gettin any easier to find
2. I know everyone bashes them but Like CTVT Doc is providing us a pretty cheap option to gain some really cool megos ( i would have no shot on a Brady Gorn and to me they are all megos)
3. the last 3 years have shown that quality control all over is not what it could be
Doc has bodies for $5 currently ( and in hand) If I gotta fix one or even 5 of the 20 for my customs so they won't be doing the I gotta find a latrine dance then its really not a huge issue for me (heck I play mix and match with ctvt torso's and bands, doc undies , legs & doc upper arms with vintage lower hands if it looks right in the outfit).
I regularly take CTVT unis and dress them on Doc bodies with the CTVT head - My Robin Hood is Awsome now and he doesn't crack a hand with his bow ( also upraded to DM version)
I worry about my vintage ones not my moderns. remember the toys of our youth ( like silver age comic books or Baseball cards from the 50's) are valuable since relatively few have survived and they bring us OLD dudes back to being 5 years old. That is unlikely to be repeated kids today have more video games than dress up dolls.
I have had a few issues but all minor. The torso split is one but it is an amazingly easy fix for what you get out of it.The other bands that are way to tight again simple fix.
I mean docs bodies are great!!!
The hands alone are fantastic they hold any and everything without that classic mego busted thumb problem.
My kids have them and play with them day in day out they still function without issue and look as good as when I first got them for them.
I just want to say thanks DOC!!!

^^ When I pay 20 bucks for a Khan or Chekov, I don't expect it to break open when trying out all the joints for the first time, this has really soured me on buying any more of the "new" Megos. I didn't buy them for customs.
