Actually in some of the gaming trek history the Gorn Hegemony was thought to be made up a three genetically related reptilian species. So the Original Mego Gorn could have been from one of those lesser races.
Regarding the vintage Gorn, I hever thought he was terrible.
I never had an issue with the Gorn. I always considered it to be a version of the aliens from “Arena” that the Klingons pressed into service of their Navy. We humans have differences in skin color and facial structure across our planet, so too would the Gorn. And in the Animated episode “The Jihad”, there was a brown coloured Gorn character, so in my mind,Mego’s Gorn is canon. My Gorn was always working alongside the Klingon as his second in command. I even armed both of them with little plastic sword-shaped toothpicks.
Here’s another possible explanation:
Upon hearing of the “Gorn” through the intercepted reports from Capt Kirk after the Cetus III incident, the Klingon Empire became very interested in an intelligent, space-faring humanoid reptilian race with inhuman strength and stamina to conquer. They searched the galaxy until they came upon what they assumed were these “Gorn”. As had happened on Earth centuries ago when Humans from the European continent were looking for a trade route to a nation called India came upon the indigenous peoples of the North American continent, and mistook them for “Indians” (a name the Native Americans are still known by to this day), the race misnamed “Gorn” by the Klingons were conquered, and thus entered Klingon Imperial society and served as foot soldiers for the Empire.
I'll collect the original Mego Gorn go with that new one.
I'll get double new Gorns (on the right side seen pic above) when they're coming out by next month!
One is for loose vintage Mego Star Trek crew & Aliens and one is for display with clamshell on the wall with EMCE Star Trek & Aliens with it's original clamshells with 2 holes on the top is for holding them on the wall close by the originals in my collection.
I agree. I have one and I only like it because it's a 30+ year old original antique Mego figure and nothing else. Design-wise, it's way off base and pretty fugly to boot.
Looking at the cut of the new EMCE outfit, I can't stop thinking about the Mego video on youtube with Kirk fighting a female Gorn with cleavage.. Uhgg.
That pre-production looks great. You hit the nail on the head with that one. I'm not so sure I like the bronze quite as well. Perhaps it was more difficult to match the pattern up with the other samples on larger runs and that's why they didn't look quite right. But too bad, it's very impressive. I've got a Gorn from the Art Asylum line that was out a couple years ago. It is perfect to the show although he is just slightly shorter (about 1/4-1/2") standing next to a Mego Kirk.
I'm not sure how they were able to match the material but it's made from the soft plastic like a batman cowl and glued on the figure. Since I landed this and it displayed well, I didn't feel the desire to hunt a Dunsel custom of that version, although his work is excellent and I wouldn't mind landing one.
