Well...one thing that is pretty cool...is that Charlie had originally intended to have The Phantom mass produced...and now it's finally happening.

      Mike,
My post was not meant to minimize Charlee's work by any means...
If you are looking for the Flatt name and mystique then by all means hit it!
I wish I could afford some Charlee's work myself, he's the man and THE NAME in custom mego figures... That's why we sought him out. Nobody wanted the original Flattworld figure to make it to production more than me! That's a big part of why we chose to do the Phantom at all... Please don't take offense at this post, we were making this figure long before you put the figure on ebay and my comments were in good natured fun. I wish you all the best in selling that proto-type, it's very cool.

Damn you David Lee, why do you have to be so nice and civil? This could have been the start of a Flatt/Reproduction flame war. It would have taken two completely seperate heated topics from the past and for the first time united them into one. I don't see this opportunity ever coming around again. Thanks for nothing.

Mike, I had just about reached the end of my bidding when I posted this for David....Davids Post gave me a little hope, so I hope I didn't start a post to **** anyone off.

When I saw the oppurtunity to own the Flatt piece I was psyched and placed my max bid right away and hoped it would not be exceeded. Unfortuneately that was not the case....when it topped my max bid of 300.00 I needed to find out if I needed to seek the unlikely permission of my wife to sell one of the kids to complete the transaction.

I hope you rake it in on this set, its a dream set to own, but at least with Daves figure comming out I know I can own a Phantom, and more importantly the possibility of the Flatt-like ZORRO!!!

Hey Mike you don't have the Flatt Zoro Proto type do you?

No harm done, I was just screwwing around. I used to own the Flatt Zorro Prototype. It was insane how much detail Charlee put into the costume. I would look at the sword he crafted from metal and couldn't even begin to figure out how he had done it. I believe Dan Platt sculpted the head on that one too and Antonio Bandaras had rejected it. I used to own the one he rejected. A second head was sculpted that was better looking but looked less like him than the one I had.

I'm wondering why Castaway wasn't able to use the Flattworld phantom head. Calvin Weaver still owns it somehow?

It's still on the table, far as I know... we even thought about an exclusive down the road

I would really like to track down the Zorro, If anyone hears about it please let me know. Even some photos would be great.

I agree the detail in that figures costume was insane. I couldn't wait for it to be produced. I am shocked to hear Antonio refused that head, I thought it was pretty dead on. Maybe it was too much Zorro and not enough Antonio Baderos. LOL

Charlie's customs are OK, some are a lot cooler than others, but I have seen a lot better work. The Flatt World Dracula was pretty nice for the time, and the clothing still holds up, but the head sculpt and the body leave a bit to be desired.

I would be ALL for a cool Zorro figure, but I would be FAR more into a more classic version, than a Bandaras/modern version, which I probably wouldn't bother buying.

I am not the biggest Phantom fan, but I don't care for the head sculpt on the prototype on eBay. Just my opinion though.

I will chime in, I own one of those Proto types also. At one time I was not to crazy on the phantom, and thought there were other figures that I would rather have. That change immedately once the figure was placed in my hand. It became priority one to obtain one. The figure is 1000 times nicer in person, and the details are amazing. I was one of the old collectors of Flatts, and back in the day payed the crazy prices. I know the market has fallen out of the figures compared of what it used to be, but someone will walk away with a deal on the proto phantom on ebay. That figure 7-8 years ago would have brought 2K+. I know Mike was an advide collector of the figures back in the day, and probably still would be of if things were different, as of other people probably would have also. That being said with all the hard feelings of many of the collectors, you will hardly ever hear one of them complain about the quality or detail of the figure.

The Flatt figures like Star Wars (the movie) was ahead of its time. Nobody was making custom figures like Flatt at that time, or if they were they weren't advertising them. Charlee went above an beyond, creating a new body, changed the head styles, customized his own heads, and put amazing detail in tight fitting costumes.

True there are a few on these boards today that can surpass his work but his work still sits as one of the top customizers today. Just as Star Wars can stand up against some of the best special effects movies of today.

The Flatt world figures were top of the line, and anyone that has one of th Proto types owns a piece of Customizing history.

When you own one of David Lee's Figures you will not regret the decision.

                              I will say this,
I've known Charlee for many years. Long before the internet. Back in the days when you had to write on paper. lol.

He is one of the most talented and gracious people I've ever had the pleasure to know and it broke my heart when FlattWorld didn't make it. I for one am so glad David tracked him down and got him involved in these projects and I will get a Phantom if for nothing else, Charlee will have had a hand in it. The guy's work may not be to everyone's liking but if anyone deserves some recognition, he does. And let's not forget Mr.Arendson for the amazing boxes he made for Charlee's figures. This was back when you didn't have more than Photoshop 2.0 and a cheap scanner and if you were lucky, a Pentium 75.

Thanks for the kind words. Trust me, it was a labor of love. Mainly because it was fun and no one was really doing custom boxes at the time. I hope to be back doing it soon.

Charlee still has over 200 boxes I had done for him over the years. He has more than enough to keep him busy should he decide to get back into making customs. I always wanted him to do Nightwing, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. He also has a set of KISS boxes I wanted him to fill.

I am looking forward to David and Jason's Phantom. And would love it if they could score Zorro or any other of Charlee's proposed lines.
