The Fly and the Shield

We have been talking through a friend of ours to the Simon people, but it has not
been easy. Our friend had an interest in seeing a Fly and Shield mego line, but
the Simon people are not representing that they own these.

I am a big fan of Alex Ross and I have great hope for the Project Superpowers
project. It will be interesting to see if they can re-animate those old WWII
characters.

I like the look of the Lancelot Strong Shield - but the Fly is almost unknown
to anyone under 45.

We had a lot of good talks at Licensing with several licensors, but I can't
give details.

Interesting. I recall ArchieCo making a big deal about the transfer of copyright back in '00 or '01. I just checked the Fly tpb and it doesn't indicate that the Fly is copyrighted by Simon but rather Archie!! It does indicate that Fly-Man is based on material created by Joe Simon. The Archie Halloween ashcans that featured the Mighty Crusaders in the early '00s did not feature the Fly and Shield II which would be odd since the Fly was their flagship hero.

My old friend, Rik Offenberger who is ArchieCo's PR guy, still hasn't responded to my inquiry. However on his message board he has acknowledged that the Simons do indeed own the Fly. DC has also announced that their use of the Fly was an oversight on their part as they weren't aware of the copyright transfer.

I remember the Fly and the Shield. Both would make great additions to the EMCE line.
