Picked up the new Gene.
Quite satisfied with the body, It doesn't have the pee stanz and poses pretty good.

Oh, use a small jeweler screwdriver and you can open the KISS zip tie and reuse it.

Anywhoo, look at the size difference of his noggins...side by side, one looks way too big, and the other looks way to small...solution - dont store em next to each other lol

I was initially thrilled when word first came out about a new KISS figure line covering the original 12 inch classics along with a new 8 inch version. Early pics looked very promising and I thought this could really be an amazing line. Since I still had my original 12 inch Mego figures with their boxes, I decided to only pick up the eight inch line (for series one). I was disappointed. While the overall look was getting there, it had too many deficits for the money they were asking. Ill fitting costumes; spotty paint work on the faces; poorly strung bodies making it difficult for them to even stand; and some odd exclusions like no instrument graphics for those who wanted to pose them as "musicians". All the promotion about a "new and improved" product left me cold. And since that time every subsequent series covering other eras have not even passed the smell test. The makeups are not remotely accurate to the era they claim to represent. The outfits look cheaply made. And the prices have gone up to ridiculous levels to nail this coffin shut. They all look like poorly crafted customs. As matter of fact, most custom KISS figures I've seen DESTROY these production figures. No competition. So I see absolutely no reason to think this line has much life left in it. I would be surprised if CTVT has actually made much money with the license, given they can't seem to sell off the quantities they've produced since series one. I think this was a novelty for the initial line but is pretty forgettable now. It's clear they don't care enough to make them look good.

The Sonic Boom gene looks pretty bad. I love that Hotter Than Hell Gene though. He looks amazing. The scale is certainly a problem with the Sonic Boom 8 inchers. Did you get the other figures in the set or just the Gene?

Thanks for the tip on the screw driver. The shoes on my Sonic Boom Gene fell off in the package. I got them back on. Thanks!!!

As far as the Sonic Boom figs go, I ain't buying the rest of them; unless it's one heckuva Amazon deal or something...and I'm talking $10-$12 each is what it would take.
I am no fan of Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer.
I haven't been a big fan of the CTVT figs to be completely honest.
The main thing for me were the 12" Mego repros - was getting those come hell or high water.
Would like a second set of those - but way too expensive.

The First Year figs, or whatever you call em, those were Xmas gifts to me from the family cuz for over 20 years I complain I don't get anything KISS related...this year, they went all out LOL.

I still loathe the uber huge clamshell, but hate to open em up out of some weird collector paranoia thing...but, in the end, I just might open em up and ditch the clams.

All the while, I must say - I am not seeing loose KISS figs pop up on ebay or even here - so most people are hanging on to them. There was a set of 12" mego repros I saw on ebay once...opened and the guy actually had AFA grade them and listed them as some crazy price...never looked to see if they sold or not.

The big thing to help this line would be the head sculpts by Farrow - holy heck, if they look as good as his customs...we are in for a treat. I just hope they don't raise the price another $10-$20 per fig as they did this round... ridiculously over priced.

I have Sonic Boom Gene and the First Year Gene opened, but back in their clams.
I will do a loose side-by-side photo when I get a chance for ya.

Thanks for posting these! The quality of the first series was pretty poor... I bought them because I have always wanted that set... completely agree with most of the statements here...
I have been waiting for anyone to post pics though... even though the sonic boom series isn't my personal favorite, I am still excited to see them!

This is CRAZY! Im getting the 12 inch Sonic Boom (Comic Boo) Gene ONLY to convert into Destroyer Gene by changing and doing the custom "scale dragon demon boot" sleeves! I really dont care for the useless FAKE Catman and Spaceman dolls. They really should have skipped those two stupid things and just done a combo Paul and Gene instead. I hope the lack luster sales of this particular line will NOT destroy the chances of later lineups. I really wanna see a Dynasty,Elder and Creatures of the Night Set

Those are customs done by Farrow. If CTVT had used his stuff, this line would constantly sell out.

Agreed - and if Farrow's "hint" on his Facebook wall, and that KISS Figure carrying case photo is accurate....we WILL be seeing Farrow heads on them eventually...I just hope the prices don't get any more ridiculous than they already are.

My thoughts exactly. Plus they would have to improve the quality of the outfits. Right now those outfits look like the dollar store variety. They need to up their quality if their going to up their prices. I'm not holding my breath though. Plus Farrow has a unique way of making the hair on his figures look distinctive as well. This straight rooted hair has got to go. It just gives the figures a cheap look. We'll see what happens.
