Hey Mego Ninja! I'm a big fan of Big Jim. I have the Big Jim, Big Josh, and Big Jeff figures in their first edition boxes and countless others including Dr. Steel ( a personal favorite), Zorak, and Torpedo Fist. But I think what you really want is a very good website that gives you an extensive history on all of these line ups. Look no further than the link below. This will take you to the classic line up. When your done there simply go back to the home page of this site and you can click on the other lines as well. ENJOY!

yeah, the Big Jim playsets that came with animals seriously walks all over AJ. I love the idea of giant alligators, tigers, octopi, clams and gorilla's, something AJ failed big time with.

There was a cool Aussie (and other nations I think) Olympic edition Big Jim in '76, check out the catalogue page here: Aussie Big Jim

I have this figure somewhere complete with gold medal and clothes, will try and find a pic.

                      Cheers,

I seem to be in the minority, as I prefer Big Jim pre-PACK. Especially the cool playsets and vehicles.
The Rescue Rig is probably the cream of the crop, and the Sky Commander jet playset is truly an awesome sight....I just purchased another one myself today!

PACK was ok, but came across as kind of "also ran" to me as a kid. The European stuff is excellent. Jim must have had a Big market (pun intended) over there as they had spy, sci-fi, and the regular series all running co-currently. I think he lasted well into the mid-eighties over there too?

Mattel released Grizzly Adams, How the West Was Won, and a generic western line (based off of the Karl May stuff) as well as Tarzan off of the Jim platform (anything else?)....Too bad they never continued on with the platform. Max Steel doesnt count in my book. Steel may have been an attempt to re-capture the Big Jim type line, but it really didnt have the same sparkle as the original......of course I'm not seven anymore either...

I like the pre PACK stuff. I have all the common Jim figures, plus the camper, tent and assorted gear. When the kids and I play, sometimes it takes the tone of the GIJoe Adventure Team, or Action Jackson. Sometimes, it's just camping and stuff. Funny how they never had a Big John. I changed The Whip's name to Big John. And Warpath to Blackhawk.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Back in the day (....and now --when nobodies looking) I used to have Big Jim just camping or fishing too.....When he wasnt in the rescue rig saving those crazy kids of Johnny Wests, who were always falling into wells, or getting trapped in the "cave" under my bed!

I like the Big John idea too.....Wonder if they didnt have a John because of the song (Big Bad John)?
