so, Krypto, have you even bought one? If not, I see no reason to complain. And if you are holding out for retro Dean Cain, I get the feeling you'll be holding out for a century or so. -
$20 a piece was hard to swallow, but they got my support. After seeing regular cheapy star wars guys for $8, the price doesn't seem as bad. Still there's plenty of vintage toys to buy with that kind of money.Leave a comment:

Yeah I left myself open for that one.Originally posted by kryptosmasterI really wanted to make a wisecrack but I think the quality is about as low as it could go at this point unless they start just throwing a pile of pieces and a rubber band in a box.
But the point I intended to make was this: Walmart are price Nazis. Often they dictate to their suppliers what the price should be, and leave it up to the supplier to match that price or not have Walmart carry the item. So then sometimes the maker has to cut corners to allow the item to sell at Walmart.
So you think it's bad now? Wait until they use a cheaper grade of plastic, or less of it in the mold and the figures start breaking as you open them, or sit on the pegs already broken. Or they reduce the body articulation. Or the outfits look more like drug store cheapies, or the sculpts make Mexican bootlegs look like Michaelango's David.
I know those are all setups for complaints and a rimshot again, but hopefully my point is made. Getting your stuff into Walmart is a double edged sword. Sometimes things cost what they cost for a reason and cheaper ain't better. Which is a painful thing for me to admit because I loves me some cheap.

Considering that, at this point, Target is selling JLU single figures for close to $10 (with tax), then I think $20 for the Retro-Action isn't that bad. Wal-Mart is selling DCU Classics for over $15 (plus tax). Would I like 'em to be cheaper? Sure...but I don't see it happening.Originally posted by kryptosmasterbut at this point I can't bring myself to spend $20 apiece on what I consider to be a $10 toy (at best).Leave a comment:

No, you don't. You've been *****ing about this line from day 1. You use every opportunity to complain about EVERYTHING, it's getting old fast. You don't like the figures, the clothes, the sculpts, the paint job, the price, nothing... Fine, we get it, so don't buy them, which you haven't.Originally posted by kryptosmasterI would truly like to support this line
But all this negativity, is that really necessary? Can't you let the people that do like them, which is just about everyone here, enjoy discussing them?Leave a comment:

That's definitely one of the reasons I'd like to see them in Walmart - it would drive circulation up, which is good for the line, while it would drive prices down, which is good for my budget.Originally posted by kryptosmasterI wouldn't expect them to sell for $5 either but if emce can sell licensed figures for under $15 and have a limited distribution/production run then why can't a conglomerate like Mattel, with their much bigger production runs AND major store distribution sell them for LESS than emce??
Imagine if these were also in Target, K-Mart & Walmarts, etc.?? They'd be under $10 easily!

Hopefully quality wouldn't suffer if Mattel was forced by Wally World to lower the price.Leave a comment:

I feel ya. I'm all for cheap, too. Nothing beat those KB clearance sales.Leave a comment:

Good point(s)...
And, even if people get these figures for "less" on eBay, a lot of the time after you factor in shipping they'd come out to near retail anyway...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Many people were all excited about seeing these hanging in a store, and buying them over the counter and what not, now there's a bunch of threads about how lame it is seeing them hanging in a store.
Try making an equivalent custom of any of the retro-action figs with packaging for under 20 bucks. Not gonna happen.
I don't know about that... These days a 3 3/4" SW figure is around $8.00+... I couldn't see any of the major retailers selling these figures for much less than what they're going for now... $15.00 at the lowest (unless on clearance)...
The CTVT inventory on the website is clearance priced as well. When those figures first came out, they were not priced at $5 a figure. They are not making new figures and continually pricing them at $5, they're getting rid of old stock from a business they've gotten out of.
If you want a brand new Mego-styled figure at those prices, that means you want a larger figure, with more articulation, and a cloth outfit - which requires more raw material and labor to produce, to cost LESS than the less-articulated and smaller 3 3/4 " DC Universe line.
I'd be thrilled if I could get the Mattel figures at that price point too. I'd hope they'd cost as much as a Barbie or no more than a 6" DCU or Marvel Legends figure, but I could see how economies of scale could price them higher.
I'd say your expectations/demands are unrealistic.Last edited by spamn; May 3, '10, 7:51 PM.Leave a comment:
I agree I'll stop on the chance hope of seeing someyhing marked down,but that doesn't happen to often.They sure aren't what they use to be.Originally posted by kryptosmasterYou ain't missing much...believe me.
TRU hasn't been the same since about 15 years ago when they did a whole bunch of rearranging of their store layouts and merchandise selection. I probably average one visit to a TRU every 3 years and even then I rarely walk out of there with anything and it's not like it's out of my way. There's one 5 miles from me that I drive by twice a day.
It's easy to get upset at the guy that speaks up first I guess.
Look at what CTVT is selling their figures for between 3 to 5 bucks,the way they talk about the quality of the Mattels it sounds comparable,So why the cost difference?Leave a comment:
not unrealistic.I realize that they have to pay for the names and trademarks they are using,just can't bring myself to buy them at for price.I guess thats the cheap little kid inside me.
