I hope one day in the near future one of the "Remego" companies will make a bunch of generic rotocast heads, which do not pertain to a specific character or TV show. I think that's what makes the 1/6 scale successful, is that there are literally hundreds of heads to chose from to make almost any character out there. Just would like to hear other people's thoughts.

Generic rotocast heads?

Hmmm. Sounds like a good idea to me.
The question is, how generic do we want it?
Blond, brunette, black hair, red hair or unpainted?
Blue eyes, brown, black, grey, etc.?
Caucasian, African-American, Latino or Asian?
Also, we want something that's generic without being boring, ugly or stupid looking.
Maybe an unpainted, rotocast head would fit the bill; that way, it could be up to the customizer what color hair/eyes he/she wants to do.JediJaidaComment

The other question is how you package it ?
a head with various hands
Radom outfits,
with a body and in shorts like the Cygirls 2.0
You just can't make a head athinking your going to sell it to collector .you have think wider sence in mass marketing.Comment

I am actually currently looking to this. I have been for months. looking at production factories , and cost to get started. I have some idea's and designs that I have been thinking about having sculpted for molds, but I am few months away from getting anything solid started. I am going start with one design ( A test head ) and if that takes off expand to more. I am hoping to have something rolling by early 2010. Once I have all the details I'll make some announcements here in the forum. Stay tuned. In The " Real World " Vampires Do Not Sparkle. They Burn In the Sun !

Yes...it is expensive, and it's something you can't make at Home. It's something that you have to have made over Seas. You have to pay to have a Mold made...and then you have to order a minimum number of Heads.$$$$$$$sigpicComment

and it a plate with many heads (example 10 heads at a time) Or more.
plate depending what being molded can weight up 1,000 pounds.
you need to have a mold ReadyCATCAM "heads created master" this allows to be lazer cut the moldes or hollow ploystone or High heat type material where Molten metal alloy
is pored over them and they are remove leaveing a mold.
The type of plastic is also a concern
Paul had to do a new Kirk head mold because the EU outrageous regs forbidding the use
of certain plastics , that Spray masks have to be made and the heads to be inspected to make sure that the color scheme is correct.Last edited by AAAAA; Aug 15, '09, 3:30 PM.Comment

Yeah resin is good but it does not hold up unless it is a matrix EX,fiberglass, carbon fiber, kevlar, nylon.and requires a rubber mold and is difficult to remove.
Rotocast mean the mold is spun in a craddel and the plastic is pushed into the molds by force, this why a little amount of plastic is used and the head winds up hollow.Comment

Not only is there a tremendous amount of work involved, who has that kind of money laying around?
It not only involves making the mold, etc. First you have to start with a design sketch of the head in question: Eyes/Hair color, angular or rounded features, high or low forehead, ears, nose, jawline, racial features (i.e. African-American, Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, etc.), male or female.
And with a female head, you have to make sure that it doesn't turn out all bugly in the execution. Cause let's face it, just because it looks good on paper, doesn't mean it will look as good as a three dimensional sculpt.
With female heads there is also the matter of giving them sculpted or rooted hair, facial expression, etc.
Also, you have to find out what people like when it comes to rotocast heads. What are they looking for in a generic head? Haughty, aloof, wicked, innocent, tough as nails, playful?
All of that has to be taken into consideration before you even come up with the master sculpt.
Still, paying 5,000 for it to be done overseas is probably a lot cheaper than having it done here in the States.
Since we get the majority of our clothing and other items from overseas, because they are cheaper to produce there, the same thing can be said of just about anything else.
Forgive me if I'm babbling, I kind of tend to do that.
It really is too bad that there are so few choices when it comes to rotocast heads for us to use when it comes to customizing.JediJaidaComment
